This 87 minute feature film DVD stars Catherine Hicks, Chr is Sarandon, Alex Vincent, and Brad Dourif. The Lake Shore Strangler, a mass murderer who has plagued the Chicago area for months, meets his untimely end when he gets shot in a toy warehouse. Left for dead, the killer summons the strength to recite a voodoo chant which causes his soul to be "reincarnated" into one of the dolls resting on the shelves. The incantation also sparks an unnatural lightning storm, and when lightning hits the warehouse, it burns to the ground. Only one doll survives: the doll possessed by the killer's soul. Later, a mother innocently buys this doll as a present for her son. At first, everything seems fine, but soon the doll starts communicating with the young boy. Then he slays the child's babysitter. That's only the first of his many gruesome exploits, however. So watch out...because just when you think Chucky's gone--he might be coming back. Horror master Tom Holland (FRIGHT NIGHT) directs this horror classic that spawned several sequels.
David Kirschner created the Chucky doll. Kevin Yagher designed him and executed his movements. There were nine Chucky puppeteers on the set and two different actors responsible for his voices. Edan Gross was the voice of the friendly Chucky, and John Franklin was the voice of "Walkabout" Chucky.
Estimated budget $19 million.
The film was shown at the Virginia Festival of American Film in Charlottesville in October, 1988. It also played at the 1989 Avoriaz Fantasy Film Festival in France.
Film was inspired by the "Amelia" sections of the Dan Curtis television show "Trilogy of Terror," where the lead actress was persecuted by a possessed Zuni doll.
The film was followed by multiple sequels. Child's Play Reviews: "...A fitting successor to the classic television horror stories it takes off from....Holland treats his audience intelligently..."
-- Caryn James, New York Times "...An exceptionally jolting roller-coaster ride through an especially scary tunnel of love....The chills come thick and fast..."

80's Classic! So I remember watching this movie as a child & it scared the hell out of me! I caught it a couple nights ago & felt like reliving my childhood. Still a classic & still has it's parts that freak me out & some that laugh.
I loved the whole concept of a naive little boy who loves his doll so much, not even realizing the effects & horrible things that are happening after he got Chucky.
So many things I may have did differently as the detective, but it's a movie & that was the point to make them seem even more stupid.
Classic for all you people you grew up in the 80's. This is one of those movies you can never forget! Submitted by lw (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Nothin' like a strang-ulation, to get the circulation goin'. It's dark. It's believable. It's every kids worst nightmare. You finally recieve the doll of your dreams and you couldn't be happier. Except for one thing--it's alive. Imagine being betrayed by your best friend, hurts like a bat to the nuts, don't it? Well that's how Andy barclay felt after seeing his doll kill numerous people, right infront of him! Trust me, I am a screen writer myself and I can honestly state that CHILD'S PLAY is not only a classic, but a damn fine way to get your kids to behave. Just tell them " Be good, or Chucky will come visit ya." They'll listen--or cry. Submitted by alexsisandchucky (vegas, baby USA all the way!) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$6.39 The third installment in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. In a medical facility, seven teenagers who have constant nightmares about child murderer Freddy Krueger undergo monitoring for sleep disorders. But nothing that anyone does seems to help them -- until Nancy Thompson, the heroine of the first movie, joins the medical staff. She suggests that they try a new drug, which inhibits dreaming, on the youngsters. The gullible doctor-in-charge opposes this treatment, forcing Nancy to fight both him and a suspicious nurse in order to save the teens. Meanwhile, Freddy gleefully unleashes one horror-filled image after another to traumatize the patients ... till they fear that this is one nightmare they'll never wake up from again.

$6.39 Freddy's back, only this time he's not confined to dreams in this macabre film within a film. Heather Langenkamp, star of the original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, along with other actors and director Craven all appear as themselves. When Heather's husband is mysteriously killed her son begins to have disturbing nightmares, culminating in a bizarre encounter with the fictional boogeyman. As self-referential as Craven's SCREAM movies, but much more serious and creepy. Some scenes shot on location near the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

| | Mclintock! DVD (1963) Widescreen; Collector's Edition; Special Edition
Child's Play film
$10.25 John Wayne shows off his funny side in this 1963 western, a comedy inspired by THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. Starring as wealthy cattle baron G.W. McLintock, Wayne shows a real sense of comic timing in several scenes filled with slapstick humor. After his wife (Maureen O'Hara) and daughter leave him for the East, McLintock attempts to win them back. The dynamics between O'Hara and Wayne are the strong suit of this film, the actors having worked together previously on THE QUIET MAN.
As this is by no means a revisionist western, McLintock's chauvinistic attempts to "tame" his wife fit within the problematic ideology of the larger western genre. The ultimate example of this comes at the end of the film when McLintock settles his marital dispute by publicly "spanking" his wife in what is now a notorious cinematic moment.
