Closed Captioned; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; Academy Awards; Behind The Scenes Dustin Hoffman is the college graduate who has an affair with a married woman (Anne Bancroft) but falls in love with her daughter (Katharine Ross). Director Mike Nichols's THE GRADUATE is the satirical coming-of-age comedy that became an emotional touchstone for an entire generation. In the mid-1960s, Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), a confused college graduate, is pulled in myriad directions by family, friends, and associates just days after receiving his degree. Seduced by Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft), an older friend of the family, Ben carries on an affair with the married woman even as he falls for her daughter, Elaine (Katharine Ross). However, Ben and Elaine's attempts at romance are threatened by the spiteful rage of Mrs. Robinson, who proceeds to hastily arrange Elaine's marriage to someone else, leading up to one of the most memorable endings in cinema history.
With its striking photography and clever editing, THE GRADUATE established Nichols as a major director. The film also made a star out of young Hoffman, who gives an understated portrayal of the perplexed Ben--the actor's first role in a Hollywood film, which he almost didn't get because he wasn't Waspy enough. Outstanding performances by the rest of the cast are highlighted by Bancroft's sexy, embittered turn as Mrs. Robinson and Ross's endearing presence as the gorgeous yet innocent Elaine. The film's impact on popular culture is immeasurable: "Plastics" will live on eternally as depressing but solid career advice, and older women will never eye younger men without fear of becoming a "Mrs. Robinson." Buck Henry (who appears briefly in the film) cowrote the influential screenplay, based on the novel by Charles Webb, and the soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel remains a movie classic. Theatrical Release: December 21, 1967
THE GRADUATE was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1996.
Features bit parts by actors Richard Dreyfuss and Mike Farell, as well as co-screenwriter Buck Henry.
The soundtrack for THE GRADUATE includes Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" and "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme." The film is the first Hollywood production to use already established hit songs in the soundtrack.
Charles Grodin was originally cast to play the lead in THE GRADUATE. Graduate Quotes/Excerpts: "I just want to say one word to you...just one word."--Mr. McGuire (Walter Brooke) to Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman)

Graduate Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Hoffman's Finest! Great film about a young man who's graduated with honors and has NO IDEA what to do next! Loses himself in diversion (Mrs. Robinson), and oddly ends up with the girl of his dreams, but more problems than he started with! Music (Simon & Garfunkle), excellent. Looks as good as it did in 1969! Submitted by Silver (Costa Rica) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A classic! A must see! Dustin Hoffman, almost a No-name when this movie was released puts on a stellar display of acting. He makes you feel tense, nervous, and unsure as you watch him fumble through life as Benjimen Braddock. This movie is well worth the money and w/ the soundtrack, an added bonus! Graduate DVD
$8.29 With THE MATRIX, the Wachowskis have established themselves as innovative filmmakers who push the boundaries of live-action films. Like the groundbreaking STAR WARS, THE MATRIX (also the first film of a trilogy) showcases a unique visual style, one the Wachowskis achieved through an array of techniques and digital effects, some never before seen in mainstream Hollywood films. Although computer morphing technology had been used before in films such as THE ABYSS and TERMINATOR 2, the Wachowskis were the first to use "bullet time," a time-bending digital effect that utilizes both computer-generated imagery and still photography.
The film itself is a complex story that aspires to mythology, focusing on a computer hacker named Neo (Keanu Reeves) who searches for the truth behind the mysterious force known as the Matrix. He finds his answer with a group of strangers led by the charismatic ...

This combination of brains and menace allows the duo to roam unchallenged, staging petty robberies when needed and otherwise kicking back at the local brothel. But when a six-pack of the best cowboys in nearby states gather to bring down the rebels, using a Native American tracker to follow them across rivers, over mountains, and through deserts; Butch and Sundance decide to flee. Gathering Sundance's girlfriend (Katherine Ross), they make their way to Bolivia via New York City. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, and before they know it, the charismatic criminals find themselves in an all-too-familiar situation, this time facing South American enemies.

AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who ...

$8.79 Pop culture sponges Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost team up again for HOT FUZZ, their follow-up to the surprise hit movie SHAUN OF THE DEAD. HOT FUZZ follows a near-identical formula to its predecessor, simply replacing the various homages to horror movies by heaping on the adulation for action flicks such as POINT BREAK and BAD BOYS II (both of which are referenced throughout). The plot finds outstanding London-based police officer Nicholas Angel (Pegg) transplanted to a rural English village. On arrival, Angel teams up with the oaf-like PC Danny Butterman (Frost) and together they investigate a series of mysterious murders, all of which are classed as "accidents" by the increasingly strange townsfolk.
Director Wright combines gory set-pieces with traditional action-movie staples: mustachioed detectives in sunglasses, corny one-liners, rapid machine-gun fire, and blood-spattered fight scenes all feature heavily. References to other movies come thick and fast throughout, and HOT FUZZ will have film fans' memories working overtime as they try to catch all the allusions to Pegg/Wright/Frost's favorite films. A veritable Who's Who of British comedy provides support, with Martin Freeman (THE OFFICE), Bill Bailey (BLACK BOOKS), Steve Coogan (I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE), and Olivia Colman (PEEP SHOW) in small roles, and there's even space ...
