This 114 minute feature film is a DVD starring Burt Lancas ter, Alain Delon, Paul Schofield and J.D. Cannon. Burt Lancaster stars as Cross, a US intelligence veteran whose CIA chief McLeod (John Colicos) has marked him for termination. On the run from the assassin, the old spy takes refuge with his Soviet counterpart--a retired KGB operative, Zharkov (Paul Scofield). That action only makes matters worse, however, by confirming the chief's suspicions that Cross is betraying America and working with the Russians. Together with Zharkov, Cross must outwit the assassin and clear his name.
SCORPIO is a highly underrated spy classic. Directed by Michael Winner (DEATH WISH, THE MECHANIC), it features a plethora of high speed chases, machine gun show downs, and plummeting exploded objects. $10.49 The legalization of gambling in Atlantic City radically changes the life of Lou (Burt Lancaster), an aging small-time numbers runner. Infatuated with his waitress neighbor Sally (Susan Sarandon), Lou still holds on to the dream that he will one day be a high stakes player in organized crime. But when Sally's ex-husband turns up with a large amount of high quality cocaine in his possession, then is quickly murdered, Lou finally gets his chance to become involved with big money and the mob--getting closer to the woman of his dreams in the process. Louis Malle's heartfelt, character-driven drama, with a script by playwright John Guare (SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION), is full of great performances.

$10.35 Set in the early 1880s, this Western directed by Kevin Costner (DANCES WITH WOLVES, THE POSTMAN) is a classic tale of the good guys verses the bad guys with a romance thrown in for good measure. Boss Spearman (Robert Duvall) and Charley Waite (Kevin Costner) are free grazers, riding herds of cattle across the country and grazing as they go. But a local rancher, Denton Baxter (Michael Gambon), considers Boss and his boys thieves, and is determined to run them out of his town by any means possible--even murder. Duvall is endearing as the tough but tender Boss, who has the courage of his convictions and refuses to be intimidated by Baxter. Costner's Charley has worked for Boss for ten years while trying to forget his past, only to find himself drawn back into conflict. Lovable Mose (Abraham Benrubi) and ...

$10.49 Director John Boorman's typical bravado is somewhat muted in this WWII parable. Set in the Pacific in 1944, the film focuses on two combatants stranded on the same barren atoll: a Japanese naval officer (Toshirô Mifune) and a U.S. marine pilot (Lee Marvin). At first the two men warily stalk each other, both revealing something by refusing to kill the other when the opportunity arises. At length the Japanese officer captures and harnesses the American, who ultimately escapes, returns, and ties up his opponent. The American finally releases his prisoner as both men grasp the pointlessness of their behavior, and a tacit truce develops between them, since neither can understand the other's language. After some scenes of mutually incomprehensible yelling and a bit of water torture, the Japanese man begins building a raft. The American's initial derision is replaced by an awareness that his cooperation ...

$7.75 Martin Ritt's adaptation of the John Le Carre bestseller THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD stars Richard Burton as Alec Leamas, a burnt-out spy soon to retire from British Intelligence. For his final assignment, Alec must pose as a drunk who wants to defect to East Germany, where the chief of operations for the Communists, Hans-Dieter Mundt (Peter van Eyck), has captured several British spies. His acting works: Communists throw Alec into jail for public drunkenness and for having an affair with a young member of the local Communist party, Nan (Claire Bloom). In jail, he is approached by Mundt's agents and asked to defect. They take Alec to East Berlin where he is grilled by Mundt's top man, Fiedler (Oskar Werner), who believes that Mundt is actually a double agent. Shot in stark black and white in documentary style, Ritt's film is a realistic portrait ...
