Underrated classic Despite outward appearances, this film should not be dismissed, as it often is, as a low-budget rip-off of "Bonnie and Clyde." "Dillinger" is its own film entirely. In fact, I almost see it as a sort of rebuttal to the sixties-style sentimentality of the aforementioned film. There are no easy goods and evils in this film; in "Bonnie and Clyde," it's almost as if they're good and everyone else is evil, whereas in your typical old gangster movie, the gangster has to be evil. "Dillinger," on the other hand, is just about a bunch of guys who happen to be professional bank robbers and the G-Man who's vowed to bring them down. No slant in either direction; the law men are as creepy as the outlaws, in some cases more so. It just feels real.
Warren Oates (I'd take him over that other Warren any day) plays a Dillinger who is such an egomaniac, he has to yell out "I'm John Dillinger, damn it! John Dillinger!" when he's robbing a place. His gang is made up of character actors such as Harry Dean Stanton, Geoffrey Lewis, and John Ryan. Ben Johnson is excellent as Melvin Purvis, the revenge-obsessed G-Man who vows to "...smoke one of these cigars over each of these mens' dead bodies." These are all great men whom we rarely get to see in the roles they deserve, let alone all in the same movie.
The entire film takes place in a depression-era world that feels as authentic as any I've seen on screen. The gun battles are bloody and deliver the goods. I couldn't possibly do this film justice with words. One of my favorites. Submitted by a reviewer (Pittsburgh) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 3 found this helpful. $9.89 John Sturges's adaptation of Alistair MacLean's novel stars Rock Hudson as submarine commander James Ferraday. When a weather-monitoring station near the North Pole is nearly destroyed by fire, he's ostensibly sent to find out what went wrong. But since he's been ordered to bring along Capt. Leslie Anders (Jim Brown) and a platoon of Marines, British agent David Jones (Patrick McGoohan), and Russian defector Boris Vaslov (Ernest Borgnine), he realizes he's being kept in the dark about the true nature of the mission. Eventually it becomes clear that the USS Tigerfish is in a race with a Russian sub to recover reconaissance film crucial to national defense that was being carried aboard a spacecraft that crashed near the polar ice cap. When the sub is sabotaged--causing it to sink perilously close to a depth that would lead to an explosion--it becomes clear that a double agent is on board, but Ferraday doesn't have enough evidence to arrest anyone. Although the film is often remembered as the one chosen for ad nauseam viewing by Howard Hughes, it's a well-made combination of action and suspense, boasting a fine score by Michel Legrand.
The U.S. nuclear sub Tigerfish churns toward the North Pole. Its mission: rescue the imperiled members of weather outpost Ice Station Zebra. On board are Cmdr. Ferraday and his crew, several unexpected arrivals with ...

$9.69 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.
Gifted med student Ted Grey (Milo Ventimiglia, HEROES) arrives at a major Washington, D.C., as an intern, where he is met with suspicion and resentment by the tightly knit group of fellow young pathologists-in-training. Soon, though, Ted is accepted into their circle---where they each take turns committing a murder so that the others may prove their mettle by figuring out the cause of death and celebrate with drug-fueled orgies among the dead bodies in the hospital. Things change for Ted, though, when his law student fiancée, Gwen (Alyssa Milano), moves to the city and helps to scare him straight. Soon, crazed Wallace Stevens-quoting leader Jake Gallo (Michael Weston) turns on Ted, putting both Ted's and Gwen's lives in serious jeopardy. The film opens with the Hippocratic Oath, and it's easy to tell that PATHOLOGY is going to show us doctors behaving badly, and the film is in fact almost gleefully immoral, with an attractive young cast that engages in almost any kind of forbidden behavior one can imagine. Showing that he isn't afraid to take on risky roles, Ventimiglia may surprise ...

$13.55 Marcel Langenegger makes his feature-film directorial debut with the aptly titled DECEPTION, a film about secrets and lies. Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) feels that life is passing him by. He completes short-term audits for a large firm, but doesn't really feel any connection to his employer and finds it difficult to make friends at his assignments since he's never there for long. Jonathan's circumstances change overnight when charming lawyer Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman) befriends him. In an instant, the shy accountant is playing doubles tennis with his new friend and beautiful women and visiting upscale clubs. Just as mild-mannered Jonathan is getting used to his new lifestyle, Wyatt leaves town on business. When Jonathan finds himself mistakenly in possession of Wyatt's cell phone, he also discovers a whole new world of anonymous sex in elite Manhattan hotels with powerful women known simply as "The List." But soon Jonathan is in over his head: he's the prime suspect when a woman goes missing, and the threat of extortion looms.
This tale weaves an intricate web of lies and treachery. Jackman is both charming and chilling as Wyatt, a man utterly ...

$10.29 Carl Franklin and Denzel Washington (DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS) reteam for this hilariously refreshing noir thriller. Washington is Matt Lee Whitlock, police chief of a small Florida town just outside of Miami. In the process of getting a divorce from the woman he still loves, Alex (the sultry Eva Mendes), Chief Whitlock has begun to have an affair with Anne (Sanaa Lathan), wife of abusive ex-football quarterback Chris Harrison (Dean Cain). When he learns that Anne has terminal cancer and doesn't have long to live, Whitlock's stupidity gets the better of him. He steals $450,000 cash that is waiting to be sent to the feds in order to help her out. But when both Anne and Chris's dead bodies are discovered the next morning, all of the signs point to Whitlock. As the clamps begin to tighten and the excuses begin to lose their already shaky groundings, Whitlock must use his cunning to track down the money and clear his name once and for all. Gleefully subverting typical film noir conventions, ...
