| | Ken Hatfield Explorations For Solo Guitar CD Ken Hatfield Discography of CDs
A series of compositions for solo guitar whose content calls upon diverse musical vocabularies ranging from blues and jazz to choro and samba. The compositions employ contrapuntal and polyphonic techniques and forms traditionally associted with classical music. Each movement stands on its own as a complete composition; however, when heard in the context of the multi-movement works that comprise this CD, the movements unfold and relate to each other like chapters in a novel.Critically-acclaimed composer/guitarist Ken Hatfield has performed extensively as a solo artist and with his ensemble at such prestigious venues as The JVC Jazz Festival, The Knitting Factory, The Classic American Guitar Show, and The North Wales International Jazz Guitar Festival. He has also performed and/or recorded with Charlie Byrd, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Grady Tate, Bob Cranshaw, Harold Maeburn, Marcus Miller, Kenny Kirkland, Dom Salvador, Marlena Shaw, Joao Donato, Lew Tabakin, Charles Aznavour, Maurice Hines, and many others. Ken's broad compositional experience includes ballet scores for Judith Jamison, The Washington Ballet, and Maurice Bejart's Ballet of the 20th Century, as well as TV and film scores, including Eugene Richards' award-winning documentary "but, the day came," and numerous jazz compositions, chamber pieces, and works for classical guitar.

| | Lenny Robinson Songs I Like To Play CD (2006)
Explorations For Solo Guitar album
$12.15 D r u m s Performer/Clinician/Educator/Producer Born October 4, 1956, Lenny Robinson has become one of the foremost voices of jazz at the drums. He grew up in Baltimore, Md. in a very rich musical environment. He played piano and organ in his father's church in his early teens. He also played trumpet in both junior high and high school. The love of percussion was felt in the ninth grade and the rest, as they say, is history. Lenny's first contact with jazz came early in junior high school when he heard a jazz recording on the radio and could not figure out how the drummer could do what he was doing. It turned out that the record was a Max Roach/Clifford Brown record and Max was burning it up. This started Lenny on a journey that continues to this day. He started out by going to listen and sit in with the elder statesmen of jazz in Baltimore. He then enrolled in the Peabody Conservatory of Music under the teachings of Charles Memphis, principal percussionist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. After a year at Peabody, Lenny transferred to Morgan State University where Mr. Memphis was also on staff. (It was a lot less expensive there.) While attending Morgan, Lenny's first international gig was with Pamoja Experience, a theatrical jazz group that chronicled the black music experience from slave songs to the present. This group toured Europe and performed in places such as the Montreux festival in Switzerland, the Oslo festival, the North Sea festival as well as theatre appearances in various cities in Europe. Shortly after returning from Europe, Lenny was asked to join Jean Carne's band. This band traveled extensively throughout the US sharing concert billings with groups such as The O'Jays, Roy Ayers, The Gap Band and other R&B groups of the early 80's. It was during ...

Explorations For Solo Guitar music CDs
$18.99 The Hank Williams Project was founded in 1997 by composer, saxophonist, and clarinetist Andrew Bishop along with Paul Elwood on banjo, Tim Flood on Bass, and Matt Wilson on drums. The group was expanded in 2002 to its current configuration, which now includes Andrew Bishop (soprano and tenor saxophones, clarinet), Andy Kirshner (voice and soprano saxophone), Steve Trismen (violin), Katri Ervamaa (cello), Paul Elwood (banjo and percussion), Ryan Mackstaller (guitar), Tim Flood (bass), and Gerald Cleaver (drums). A virtual “dream team” of musical eclectics, the Hank Williams Project is devoted to breaking down the barriers of musical style and genre, notions of high and low art, and blurring the distinctions between composition and improvisation.Press QuotesGrade: A+ "Hear that lonesome postmodern whippoorwill? Bishop makes it sound utterly natural to take liberties with the bard of the country highway. Bishop alternately plays Williams tunes (and originals inspired by him) for laughs and for angst; he jazzes things up and slows them down to Williams-haunted dirges."-W. Kim Heron, MetroTimes, Detroit"For his Williams project, [Bishop has] conceived a surrealistically rural sound world including banjo, guitar, cello, vocals, bass and drums...Here is a ...

| | Obituary Frozen In Time CD (2005)
Explorations For Solo Guitar album
$23.29 The return of Obituary in 2005 came as a surprise, for the band hadn't been active since the mid-'90s. They sort of petered out after World Demise in 1994, releasing the ho-hum Back from the Dead in 1997 and then calling it a day as the bandmembers busied themselves elsewhere, most visibly as guitarist Allen West enjoyed a lot of success in Six Feet Under. Obituary's reunion album, Frozen in Time, wasn't only a surprise because of the long absence, though. It also came as a surprise because it's so darn good, up there with the best the band ever recorded, even in their heyday. Clocking in at a brisk ten songs in 35 minutes, Frozen in Time is a perfect Obituary album -- almost so perfect it invites such criticisms as "more of the same." But more of the same is perfectly fine when it's done this well, especially for longtime fans nostalgic for the good ol' days of death metal. Obituary never were a band to push the boundaries, after all -- avant-garde death metal they were not. Then again, there was a day when they were cutting-edge, that is, way back in 1989 when they ...
