An assault on the sensibilities of a sane person, this film coldly observes the horrendous actions of a serial killer who executes random victims in various ways.

HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, loosely based on the case of Henry Lee Lucas, a confessed serial killer, is a terrifyingly intimate journey into the twisted life of a murderous psychotic. As the blank-eyed Henry (Michael Rooker) drifts from place to place, he selects victims at random, slaughters them, and captures the brutality on videotape. When he is joined by his deranged roommate, a loudmouthed ex-convict named Otis (Tom Towles), the almost unfathomably malevolent acts multiply. John McNaughton's film, in the tradition of such classic studies of homicidal personality as PEEPING TOM and TAXI DRIVER, goes further than both of these movies in its flat refusal to tell the killer's story on anything other than the killer's terms. McNaughton is able to present the world Henry aimlessly traverses as Henry sees it--almost unendurably bleak and meaningless--and in doing so he allows his film to go as deep into the nightmarish mind of a killer as anything ever committed to celluloid.

HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER was originally rated X by the MPAA. The film's distributors chose to release the film without a rating instead. "It's probably too bloody for the art crowd and too arty for the blood crowd."--director-cowriter John McNaughton, discussing HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER

Henry Portrait Of A Serial Killer Quotes/Excerpts:

"You want some fries?"--Henry (Michael Rooker) to his shaken pal Otis (Tom Towles) after he kills two prostitutes in front of Otis "The moose is loose."--bumper sticker on the back of Henry's car

"...Exceptionally well-acted....[A] challenging, uncomfortable and honourable approach to real-life horrors..." -- Kim Newman, Sight and Sound

"...A more explicit PSYCHO made with Hitchcock's integrity..." -- 4 out of 4 stars-- Mike Clark, USA Today

"...Profoundly disturbing....[McNaughton's] artistic control of the camera and narrative is evident from the start..." -- Caryn James, New York Times

"...Rooker captures a psychopath's charisma in a film as raw as a fresh blade wound." -- Rating: B+ -- Lawrence O'Toole, Entertainment Weekly

4 stars Whoa...
This is not my typical movie. My tyupical movie is Bad Taste or The Toxic Avenger. That said, this is one of the best movies I've never seen earlier. Screw Silence of the Lambs, this is way better. I saw this film in a room full of soldiers, and half the audience left after a disturbing sequence where Henry and Otis videotaped a family killing. If you like horror, or just plain sick stories, then get this. I cannot reccommend for the gore fans, however. Not big on blood, but still damn entertaining.

5 stars Shocking movie!
This movie is based originally on Henry Lee Lucus, but has been changed around a lot. It is weird how a serial killer can end up loving someone so much he kills her. The graphic scene with the Brother Otis is pretty horrific. If you are interested in serial killers, this is a good one for you to watch!

5 stars One of the best psytchotic thrillers I have seen in years!
Great Movie!!!!!!! The most terrifying thing about it has got to be those killings you dont see, the most actual killings you see are at the end of the movie. Henry doesn't unleash his true potential in the movie til the last few scenes. Very well acted and the sequel can't nearly compare to it. A+++++

Patrick Swayze stars in this modern-day Western as a tough guy who has poetic instincts and drives a Mercedes. Fresh from earning his doctorate in Eastern Philosophy from New York University, mettlesome loner Dalton (Swayze) finds work as a bouncer at an anarchic road house. Within weeks, Dalton has rid the bar of the ruffians ruining its business and has even struck up a romance with a sexy doctor (Kelly Lynch). Then Dalton bounces the wrong man, who turns out to be one of town crime boss Brad Wesley's henchmen. Wesley first tries to buy Dalton off, but fails. When Wesley learns of Dalton's new lover -- who used to be Wesley's significant other -- Wesley vows bloody vengeance. But Dalton, with his unique mixture of brute force and Zen oneness, isn't about to let his college money go to waste. Patrick Swayze stars as Dalton, the best bar bouncer in the business, but he's anything but typical. He's a little small for his trade, has a degree in philosophy and espouses "being nice." When he's hired to clean up the Double Deuce, he's pushed to his breaking point. ...

This Norwegian drama takes place against the backdrop of the country's surfing community. Other than their love of the sport, Tord and Even couldn't be more different. Tord has a great job and a pregnant wife named Karen. Meanwhile, Even is going nowhere, certain only of his love for Karen. When Tord leaves his wife in Even's care, Karen's conflicting emotions make the trio's relationships more complicated. MONSTER THURSDAY was a nominee for the Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema at Sundance in 2005. Even leads a directionless life. Tord, his best friend, is the opposite: a great surfer with a prestigious job and beautiful Karen as his bride. The last part is especially hard on Even, who is not-so-secretly in love with Karen. When Tord asks him to look after Karen while ...
