Justifiably overshadowed by the peerless Getz/Gilberto album (which featured "Girl From Ipanema") from a year before, Getz/Gilberto #2 still holds its own with an appealing selection of fine jazz and bossa nova cuts. Unlike the first album's seamless collaboration by Getz, Joao Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, here Getz and Joao Gilberto turn in separate sets recorded live at Carnegie Hall in October of 1964. Melissa Etheridge Brave and Crazy CD (1989)
Getz/Gilberto #2 songs Not a trace of the dreaded sophomore curse was to be found on Melissa Etheridge's second album. On Brave and Crazy, the throaty singer/guitarist/composer is slightly more reflective than on her first release, but no less confident. Nor is she is any less rootsy. Etheridge's earthiness is a large part of her appeal, and she uses it most advantageously on the gutsy rockers "Skin Deep" and "Let Me Go," as well as more reflective pieces such as "Testify," "You Used to Love to Dance" and "You Can Sleep While I Drive" (which, like a lot of Bruce Springsteen's songs, equates long drives with freedom and liberation). As introspective as things get on this CD, Etheridge never becomes wimpy or self-pitying. For all its vulnerability, Brave and Crazy is the work of someone who comes across as a survivor. ~ Alex Henderson

14 Feet Wide P.O.R.N. CD (2002)
Getz/Gilberto #2 album for sale Like the epic story surrounding many original bands, 14 Feet Wide developed their unique amalgam of rock thunder ball and melodic maelstrom playing dives and dance halls in local climes, theirs being the fragrant southeast, home of many a legend and many a loser. Comprised of vocalist Jamie Peavey, guitarist Jon Westwood, bassist Hayden Mauney, and drummer Matt Doughten, 14 Feet Wide espouse road worn, rock and roll tradition, with a nod to modern technology and computer commerce. Rather than simply imitate any one particular artist (which would brand them as yet more wannabe poseurs slurping limp toilet water), 14 Feet Wide incorporate a dizzying, diverse stew of unlikely influences including Clutch, Orange 9MM, Rage Against the Machine and Downset.
14 Feet Wide's second CD, P.O.R.N. will tweak your nipples and upset your solar plexus. It's like golfing with bowling balls and sledgehammers: P.O.R.N.(like golf, students) is graceful, rhythmic and reminiscent of old school forms, but (watch those sledgehammers, Eugene) it kicks mighty ass and grinds your skull, the deft pairing resulting in serious sounds for serious listeners.
