(1 Customer Review)
Featuring Evans on solo piano as well as with bass player Chuck Israels (this is the last recording to feature Israels as a regular trio member) and Arnie Wise on drums, BILL EVANS AT TOWN HALL includes the first half of Evans's official New York concert debut in 1966. Evans's father died three days before the performance, and the pianist is not at his nuanced, otherworldly best. However, two original compositions are included--"One For Helen," and the four-part requiem, "In Memory of His Father, Harry L. Evans, 1891-1966." This somber solo piece draws on some earlier material, including its "Epilogue," which was originally recorded on EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS, but the delicate, Satie-tinged "Prologue" is all new, and the central section yielded "Turn Out the Stars," which would become one of Evans's most well-known songs. The entire "In Memory" suite was performed only once again by Evans, in 1968 in memory of Robert Kennedy.
Recorded live at Town Hall, New York, New York on February 21, 1966. Includes liner notes by Eric Salzman, Dan Morgenstern, Helen Keane, Bob Messinger and Richard Seidel.
Digitally remastered by Dennis Drake (Polygram Studios).
Personnel: Bill Evans (piano); Chuck Israels (bass); Arnold Wise (drums).

Bill Evans At Town Hall album
$11.69 Occasionally during UNDERCURRENT one expects the other shoe to drop: the growl of a bass entering in half time, wire brushes falling patiently into place on a sizzle cymbal. It never happens, and that's ultimately the allure of this duet record. The pleasure of these eight cuts (two of them previously unreleased, all of them recorded over two days in the spring of 1962 in New York) lies in the sense of overhearing a private conversation between two particularly thoughtful people.
The tunes are mostly standards, and they conjure a noirish, rainy-night aesthetic. There are a few exceptions, though--the blues come gleaming through on the limber "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" and the more reflective ...

We're proud to announce the winners for this year's round of awards. Awards were selected by an independent panel of judges from the Le Moyne College music department lead by Andrew Russo, head of the department.Best Rock: Stone Soul FoundationCentral New York's STONE SOUL FOUNDATION is packing heat! They are poised to spread like wildfire all over the world with the release of their first full length record INTO THE FLAMES. Since the band's formation in 2002 *S.S.F. have not been blowing smoke. They have been cultivating a blazing furnace of rock and roll fury, and it is about to explode! Stoking the flames is the bluesdriven hardrock groove of guitarists Jeff Wiggins and Dan Dennis, a rhythm section that makes one wonder whether they want to dance, kill or f#*k, courtesy of bassist Doug Paradise and drummer Shane Stillman, and Sean Muldoon soulfully singing and shouting like a crazed preacher. STONE SOUL FOUNDATION's music is unapologetic when it comes to their sound. It is retro flavored, dirty white boy rock and roll. And, they've got soul too! There can be no doubt about that once you hear them. They can make you dance, pump your fist and bang your head all in one song. STONE SOUL FOUNDATION’s lyrics are diverse in their subject matter. You'll laugh, cry, howl at the moon and curse the sun. Hell, S.S.F's music and lyrics may cause some to conceive children. Let's face it, listening to most modern rock is like watching paint dry, only without the intoxicating fumes. Listening to S.S.F is like dousing the walls with gasoline and setting the whole damned house on fire. STONE SOUL ...
