(2 Customer Reviews)
Assuming that what most casual listeners want out of collections like the Motown Legends series is an act's biggest hits, this is one disc that doesn't deliver -- outside of the blockbusters "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" and "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep," the majority of these 11 tracks are instead the Temptations' minor hits. While there's some undeniably brilliant material included (notably the excellent "It's Growing"), the disc's very existence is questionable -- hardcore Tempts fans will already have these performances, while less devoted listeners won't want them anyway; and as it's just one of several Motown Legends collections from the group, it's tough not to feel cheated by yet another misguided Motown marketing ploy. ~ Jason Ankeny

Motown Legends: Just My Imagination
$6.79 Originally released on Gordy #912 in February 1965. Includes liner notes by Berry Gordy, Jr.
All tracks have been digitally remastered using 24-bit technology from the original master tapes.
This was only the group's second LP, and it was an extremely strong one, built around two monster hits ("My Girl" and the previously recorded "The Way You Do the Things You Do") and one close runner-up ("It's Growing"), plus a brace of some of the best songs in the Motown catalog, including renditions of "You Beat Me to the Punch," "What's So Good About Goodbye?," "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," and "Way Over There." All are done in a style unique to the Temptations, ...

| | New Edition Home Again CD (1996)
Motown Legends: Just My Imagination
$6.85 The inevitable reunion of one of the 1980s' biggest pop groups was a long time in the making. The seeds were sown in 1991, when solo stars Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant joined their three former bandmates, who had found stardom as Bell Biv DeVoe, on a version of the BBD single "Word To The Mutha" (on WBBD - BOOT CITY! THE REMIX ALBUM). The results were overwhelming, and demand for a full-fledged reunion began. Now, eight years after the last New Edition album, the band is back HOME AGAIN.
Much has changed in pop music since the group's 1983 debut, but somehow New Edition seems to stay current, and get better, with each album. The ballads are more mature now; "One More Day" sounds like Babyface-style soul. "Hit Me Off" is HOME AGAIN's Candy Girl-Cool It Now-Count Me Out-If It Isn't Love pop song, and it has a new jack swing to it--not too hip-hoppy, ...

$7.39 After leaving Motown in the early 1970s, the Four Tops moved to the California-based label ABC/Dunhill (and in the '80s to Casablanca). Like the Temptations and other Motown acts popular in the '60s, the Four Tops were changing their sound to suit the times, infusing their smooth, harmony-laden pop with edgier, funky rhythms, and ...
