| | Village People Live And Sleazy CD Village People Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Live albums by studio-constructed groups are always a bit weird, but the Village People's Live and Sleazy (possibly the greatest title for a live album, ever) is an entity unto itself. Released in 1979, just after the group's popularity peaked but before the downfall began, the album captures the group running through their best known songs "live" in concert -- much of this was doctored in the studio, after the fact. There's no improvisation or new arrangements here, but there's a different feel -- it's over-the-top and ridiculous and if you have somehow missed the group's not-quite-hidden gayness, well there's no chance of it here. It's not really the way to hear Village Poeple, but fans of kitsch and disco will find this an irresistable artifact. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
With a title like Live and Sleazy, there's not much else too say -- after all, anyone looking for good, clean fun probably wouldn't be sniffing around a Village People record anyway. ~ Jason Ankeny
Well, the title does give a clue of what you're in for. Live and Sleazy is a cheap recording of the Village People past their prime. The group was never designed to be real performing outfit, so the idea of a live album is sort of silly. Even so, Live and Sleazy is worse than expectations, featuring bad vocals, bad audio, and bad packaging. There's simply no reason to own it. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Live And Sleazy Music Review Purchase Live And Sleazy CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Odyssey Native New Yorker CD (1994)

| | Talking Heads Remixed CD (1999) (Import) England; United Kingdom
Live And Sleazy music CDs
$7.49 Talking Heads present REMIXED featuring 12 tracks including "She Was" and "Blind (Extended Mix)."
A single CD collection of Talking Heads's 12" singles from the years 1985-1987. For the musical adventurers they were, the Heads didn't get into the remixing business until late in the game, and only in the years when they, conversely, were at their least experimental (the albums Little Creatures, True Stories, and Naked). At their best, these remixes supercede the originals by opening up the instrumentation, breaking apart the parts and reassembling them into a broader sound spectrum ("The Lady Don't Mind" is a perfect example); at worst, they simply bring the drums up in the mix and extend the song by repeating verses without the vocals or other studio trickery ("And She Was," "Wild Wild Life"), typical of much remix work of the early '80s. An amusing mix of "Radio Head" by Full Force drops in samples from "Once in a Lifetime" to propel it forward, and Arthur Baker's reshuffling of "Blind" takes a dense mix and throws it all up in the air. It's certainly not a complete collection -- where are the Jellybean Benitez remixes of "Making Flippy Floppy" and "Slippery People" among others? -- but certainly covers most of the bases. ~ Ted Mills

| | Village People Macho Man CD (1978)
Live And Sleazy songs
$4.79 Assembled by French producer Jacques Morali, who also struck gold with the outrageous Ritchie Family, the Village People took high camp and good spirits even farther over the top with their overtly gay-oriented disco. Masters of exploitation or attraction was always the debate as the band cruised through songs that were immediate club staples during the late '70s. But despite the inevitable, and often ridiculous controversies, what is important is that this band, no matter how plastic fantastic or politically incorrect they may have appeared, still turned in some classic performances. The sextet, fronted by the talented vocalist Victor Willis, had already made a splash on the disco scene with their self-titled 1977 debut. With that LP clocking in under 30 minutes, Morali ensured that there was still room for more. One of two Village People albums to appear in 1978, Macho Man hit the stores in the spring to immediate success. A punchy, driving disco flanked by Willis' funk vocals marks the consistent keynote of this LP -- one that was all but crushed under the dominance of "Macho Man." And OK, the costume party image was the gimmick, it was the distracting fascination that brought the band so much attention. But there are interesting moments buried here as well. "I Am What I Am" may not have been subtle, but it certainly was a well-constructed slab of groove. And as for the gospel-tinged "Sodom and Gomorrah," there's a good reason why it was buried ...

| | Mariah Carey CD (1990)
Live And Sleazy songs
$7.59 It was clear early on in her recording career that Long Island's own Mariah Carey possessed a rare combination of qualities that would make her special. She had a commanding voice, an uncanny ear for a hit, commanding stage presence and an effervescent personality. She was, in short, an American pop diva just waiting to be discovered.
When her eponymous 1990 debut sold more than 12 million copies, it was clear Carey would become the pop queen she'd always dreamed she'd be. From the doo-wop-influenced opening track "Vision of Love" to the sweet, last-dance ballad "Love Takes Time," Carey's debut was one of biggest-selling records of the '90s. It was so popular, in fact, that four of the 11 tracks on the album hit #1 on the Billboard singles chart. MARIAH CAREY is Top 40 perfection with a remarkable young talent at the center of it all.
Recorded at Cove City Sound Studios, and Shakedown Studios, New York, New York.

| | Michael Wells Western Arm CD (2008)
Live And Sleazy CD music
$16.45 Michael started playing guitar at age 17 and instantly fell in love. He started writing songs as soon as he could piece together chords. His first song was actually in two keys because he ran out of chord choices among the 5 guitar chords he knew. He has learned a few more. As a voice major in college he sang in small choirs, large choirs, musicals, chamber choirs and a semi-lucid doo-wop improvisational group. But, his first love has always been the guitar. He has been a lead guitar player in blues bands, jazz bands, rock bands and even an eastern european folk troupe. He has concentrated on bringing a number of different solo sounds to this CD. He uses some hard to find classic electric guitars on the CD. Pictured on the front of the case is Michael with his 1953 Les Paul Goldtop. ...
