| | Best Of Tom Jones CD Tom Jones Discography of CDs
THE BEST OF TOM JONES is probably the most thorough and entertaining of the many Tom Jones compilations available. Twenty-two tracks are exquisitely remastered to let every one of those over-the-top string sections and all of Jones' manly bellows reverberate as nature intended.
All of Jones' biggest hits are included, from 1964's "What's New Pussycat," through such definitive Jones classics as "It's Not Unusual," "She's a Lady," and "Delilah," all the way up to his tongue-in-cheek comeback with the Art Of Noise, a 1989 electro-shock collaboration on Prince's "Kiss." Too long thought of as merely a kitsch figure, Jones is an undeniable talent. However, it seems that either you get him or you don't. If you get him, this is the anthology to get.

Arranger: Blackwell. Best Of Tom Jones Music Review Just Pure Fun Honestly, what made me buy this is the picture on the cover. What a heart skipper. Upon opening and playing the music, I fell in love with Tom's voice on "Detroit City" and "Ring of Fire". The depth and range of his voice is amazing. This is definately one piece of music that isn't off my player for very long. Another highlight is Mr. Jones rendering of the classic "Danny Boy", you feel every word. Buy it and enjoy!!! Best Of Tom Jones album
$11.79 Twenty-five years after the release of Rick Wakeman's groundbreaking Journey to the Centre of the Earth album, a sequel entitled Return to the Centre of the Earth was released, this time including a who's who of musicians and vocalists. Still employing the London Symphony Orchestra to accompany his plethora of keyboards, Wakeman uses Patrick Stewart of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame to narrate the story and former Yes guitarist Trevor Rabin for some spicy solos. But, even with famed vocalists like Justin Hayward, Bonnie Tyler, and Ozzy Osbourne in the spotlight, the music gets lost in fields of pretentious instrumental clamoring and strays far from Wakeman's intentional story line. Not enough time is given to enjoy Wakeman's artistry because of an overabundance of other instruments and unnecessary hubbub that disappointingly drown out his synthesizers. When Wakeman is caught playing, he falls short of his polished self, sounding rushed and irregular. His first Journey album sounded clean and finessed, thanks to simple organization and the fact that the focal point was aimed at his masterful keyboard playing. ...

| | Johnnie Ray Live At The Palladium CD (1954) (Import) Germany
Best Of Tom Jones music CDs
$21.29 This is an odd little document of a period in pop music that didn't leave behind too many concert recordings, though Johnnie Ray left more than his share, what with At the Desert Inn in Las Vegas and this little gem. Johnnie Ray's opening night at the London Palladium on April 5, 1954, was recorded live and released exclusively in England on the Philips label, where it was accompanied by a single of his concert rendition of "As Time Goes By." The sound is a little uneven, partly owing to technical shortcomings and the logistics of cutting Ray, who was highly animated on-stage when he wasn't at the piano and used a uniquely small-size microphone, trailing it all over the stage, plus the presence of a house band (the Sky Rockets under Eric Rogers) that was more than a little ragged. One gets a real sense of how animated Ray was, as he bounds from Nat King Cole-style soft pop to ebullient gospel-style numbers; he was the Elvis Presley of his day, teasing and rousing the female portion of the audience (who are frenzied throughout), although this performance makes a little less use of jazz and blues influences ...

| | Warren Barfield Reach CD (2006)
Best Of Tom Jones music CDs
$12.65 Warren Barfield's new opus Reach is the right way to speak through your music. It kicks off with a grand statement; "I'll Be Alright Is the Right Way" is the perfect way to explode out of the gate. The cut drips with seasoned guitar riffs, bouncy feel-good piano, and an over-the-top breakdown. Barfield puts his stamp here creating a relevant vibe that testifies to a good songwriter. The richness of these cuts takes you places. Barfield's vocals are passionate, at times with a '70s vibe that has the richness of Cat Stevens, or Al Stewart, while at others he churns it up with a hint of Dave Matthews and Third Eye Blind. "Saved" mixes acoustic and electric guitars. As the guitars build dynamically the cut's chorus takes you away. Speaking of guitars, with "Head Held High" Barfield grooves with electric and acoustics, a Hammond B-3, and an earthy, retro-clavinet that grabs you completely. The cut also oozes with a retro-groove. The guitar playing on the disc is some of the best this year. Check out the riff on "Unleashed." or the funky feel of "Shadow." Here is testimony why nuances prove less is more. When he eases into "Take My Life" the disc takes a tremendous turn. With a ballad, the lushness of every instrument shines. Whether it's the B-3 playing, the riffs, or the musicianship, every piece of the puzzle fits. From beginning to end Reach feels right. It sounds like friends playing music that they were meant to play. The musicians sprinkled throughout the disc all play within their ...
