| | Jazz That Cooks CD (1 Customer Review)
Jazz That Cooks is a solid sampler of modern-day soul-jazz, funky hard bop, and groove music, featuring artists like Charles Earland, Joey Defrancesco, Teddy Edwards, Irene Reid, Red Holloway, and more. It's pretty consistent throughout, making it a good basic introduction to these artists as well. ~ Steve Huey

Jazz That Cooks album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. ...

Jazz That Cooks CD music
$15.95 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful ...

Jazz That Cooks music CDs
$14.59 Recorded live at The Knitting Factory, New York, New York on March 10-11, 2002. Includes liner notes Bill Milkowski.
Bop snobs love to lump all avant-garde jazz together and claim that all of it is mindless screaming, but the people who make such claims haven't done their homework. Most of them wouldn't know Cecil Taylor from Horace Tapscott, nor would they be able to tell the Art Ensemble of Chicago from Ornette Coleman & Prime Time. The point is that there are many different shades of avant-garde. There is extreme avant-garde (Charles Gayle), and there are mildly avant-garde outfits such as the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Like the group's previous work, All Is One: Live in New York City favors an inside/outside approach (more inside than outside) and offers an eccentric blend of jazz, funk, and rock. This CD documents a two-day appearance at the Knitting Factory -- one of New York's top venues for avant-garde jazz -- in March 2002. True to form, the JFJO demonstrates that being left of center doesn't mean being unfocused ...

Jazz That Cooks songs
$14.49 Few bands have so artfully and appealingly blended pop, R&B, jazz and world music over the past few decades as this East L.A.-bred ensemble, Hiroshima, which enters the new millennium with a set that draws on everything from old-school soul to Les McCann to the Japanese traditions so dear to its heart. Heads Up will no doubt market this as a smooth jazz project, but only a few tracks are middle of the road enough to truly qualify. The best of these, the lilting and inspirational "Believe," balances Terry Steele's seductive soul vocals with the exotic touches of bandleader Dan Kuramoto's breathy alto flute and June Kuramoto's trademark koto. "Another Wish" also captures the dreamy ...
