This is a 102 minute feature film DVD. After the Civil War, a wagon driver named Buck and his devoted wife meet a con man posing as a preacher and together they guide a group of newly freed slaves out west in search of a homestead. But Louisiana labor recruiters prove menacing en route, riding like Klansmen to hunt down the train and its leader. But Buck and the Preacher join forces with American Indians to fight their common white foe, and eventually claim the promised land.
Sidney Poitier directs and stars in this all-black western about an ex-Union Army cavalry soldier leading a group of recently-freed slaves to the western frontier in post-Civil War America. Tagging along with Buck are his wife Ruth (Ruby Dee) and a con man disguised as a preacher (Harry Belafonte, in his first onscreen pairing with Poitier). The black homesteaders' progress is seriously impeded by a sadistic racist (Cameron Mitchell) and his band of murderous thugs who resent the slaves' newfound freedom and wish to send them back to a life of servitude and sharecropping in Louisiana. With equal parts drama and comedy--as well as Biblical allusions to the story of Exodus--Buck and his followers must summon all their courage to contend with the racists on their journey to freedom. "Buck and the Preacher" marks Sidney Poitier's directorial debut but it was the second western of his career. "Duel at Diablo," directed by Ralph Nelson in 1966, was Poitier's first.

Buck And The Preacher review
$10.49 WILD IN THE STREETS: A campy satire about a rock star/drug dealer who is elected president once the voting age has been lowered to fourteen. The title song was a big hit in the 60's and the film itself was well-liked by many critics. Academy Award Nominations: Best Film Editing.
GAS-S-S-S: After a mysterious gas kills everyone on earth over the age of 25, a wisecracking hippy (Robert Corff) and his scientist girlfriend (Elaine Griftos) wander the lawless landscape of Texas and New Mexico in search of a pueblo commune where peaceful survivors are gathering. On the way they must contend with various run-amok youth cultures, including a raping and pillaging football team and a fascist country club run by golf-cart-driving Hells Angels. Ben Vereen, Cindy Williams, and Talia Coppola (before she was Talia Shire) costar ...

Buck And The Preacher movie DVD
$18.29 One of the greatest action movies of the late 1980s, DIE HARD ushered in a new standard for the genre. With the dissolution of the Cold War, both the stereotypical Russian threat (represented in movies such as TOP GUN and RED DAWN) and the destructive egoist (as seen in OCTOPUSSY) became less fearful. With DIE HARD, director John McTiernan introduced Hollywood to a new type of villain: the terrorist entrepreneur. Alan Rickman stars as Hans Gruber, a relentless businessman whose lethal tactics achieve his goals. Unlike most '80s film villains who committed globally dangerous ...
