William Holden won the best actor oscar for the 1953 classic "Stalag 17", another WWII prison flick, but lost out to Alec Guinness for "Bridge"

| The quintessential Saturday night movie
Bridge on the River Kwai review For me, this movie represents the very essence of sitting at home on a Saturday night watching a movie. Bridge on the River Kwai DVD for sale The various elements comprising this movie (not the least of which is the music)are essentially perfect and meld to form something which is greater than the sum of its parts.

| Fairy tale
My Father was a POW held by the Japanese, as for this film goes it is a fairy tale, so far away from the truth, OK the acting is okay but the screen play and script is a fantasy, and is very cosy to watch, as if you were to watch what really happened you would be very shocked.
