This 134 minute feature film is a DVD. The classic film adaptation of James Hilton's romantic novel of a paradise found... and almost lost forever.
Revolution has broken out in China, and English diplomat Robert Conway and his brother George help to evacuate British citizens from the danger zone. But on their way home, gunmen hijack their plane and take them off course; they finally crash in the mountains of Tibet. To the survivors' surprise, a rescue team approaches and leads them into the land of Shangri-La. Robert Conway discovers that the country, established nearly two centuries ago, has magic qualities; within its borders people may survive for hundreds of years, and live in peace and harmony with each other and the world. For Robert, Shangri-La is everything he ever dreamed of -- but his brother wants only to leave. Should he stay, and desert his brother... or go, and never see Shangri-La again? Frank Capra's timeless masterpiece is fully restored. Based on James Hilton's book, five people stumble upon an idyllic valley in the Himalayas called Shangri-La, where peace abounds and time has virtually stopped. Academy Award Nominations: 7, including Best Picture. Academy Awards: Best Film Editing, Best Interior Decoration. At the time this was released, it was Columbia's highest costing film to date (around $2,500,000). The lamasery itself took 150 workmen and two months to build. Lost Horizon Reviews: "...LOST HORIZON has become one of the most beloved films of that most beloved of directors, Frank Capra....LOST HORIZON remains timeless in its essential appeal..."-- Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times "...A truly startling experience..."

Lost Horizon Movie Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A Ronald Colman Classic One of the greats of year gone by, Ronald Colman stars in the leading role of one of the greatest movies of all time. A must for movie fans of all ages! Submitted by pakarr1 (Lincoln, NE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Story has a message for all ages I first saw this story as a young boy. It made a lasting impression on me particularly the scene of the young woman aging rapidily after leaving Shangri-La. I was puzzled why anyone would leave such an ideal place. When I was older and saw the movie again on the late show, it finally dawned on me that some people don't always recognize when they are in an ideal life style (Utopia).
It is unfortunate that some of the original film could not be recovered, but keeping the audio with a still shot did not distract from the storyline. A well written story, good acting and not depended on special effects. Submitted by fcalapristi (Leavenworth, WA., USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Frank Capra at his best With the exception of the DVD case being all torn to hell, and the liner notes being trashed, this is one of my all time fav. motion pictures...before there was 'I's a wonderful life' there was "Lost Horizion"...check it out; its worth it!!!

Leaves you with hope! Great movie, fine acting, classic novel, Coleman at his peak! Totalitarianism? Who issued an order? It's fun and makes you wonder what you'd choose! Soundtrack is continuous, with few minutes of stills to fill the lost film, but hardly noticed it.
Highly recommended! Submitted by Silver (Costa Rica) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Looking for Lost Horizon 1973 I was touched by this film made in 1973 (of course I wasn't born before 1937). I still have this movie in my heart and still sing all those songs. Anyone can tell me where I can get the VCD DVD of the movie and audio of the songs. I live in Thailand and I wouldn't mind if it has to be in any other countries. Thank you so much. Also another film with Michael York called Seven Nights in Japan, anyone?

Lost Horizon film
$10.29 Don Siegel's cult masterpiece, interpreted as an allegory of both McCarthyism and Communism, is undoubtedly one of the screen's most disturbing evocations of paranoia. It stars Kevin McCarthy as Dr. Miles Binnell, a physician whose traumatized arrival in the emergency room of a San Francisco hospital leads the staff to believe he's lost his mind. In a series of flashbacks, he unwinds a bizarre account of his last few days. After his return from a trip to rural Santa Mira, his nurse, Sally (Jean Willes), explains that his office has been flooded with patients who have made appointments yet never appeared. Former girlfriend Becky Driscoll (Dana Wynter) tells him that she's unable to rid herself of the belief that the man claiming to be her uncle is an impostor. A hysterical young boy refuses to return home, claiming that his mother is not his mother. Miles's concern over this pattern of incidents, temporarily allayed by some jargon from the town psychiatrist, is newly aroused when he gets a phone call from friend Jack Belicec (King Donovan), who begs him to come over and take a look at the strange mannequinlike figure that's suddenly appeared on ...

| | Birds DVD (1963) Widescreen; Collector's Edition
Lost Horizon DVD
$13.59 In THE BIRDS, Alfred Hitchcock's heart-pounding follow-up to PSYCHO, the director couples a tone of rigorous morality with dark humor to create a thriller that begins as a light comedy and ends as an apocalyptic allegory. Tippi Hedren (Melanie Griffith's mother) carries the picture in her first film role ever, embarking on a career as an icy-cool leading lady. Loosely based on a Daphne du Maurier story and a Santa Monica newspaper account, "Seabird Invasion Hits Coastal Homes," THE BIRDS also features groundbreaking special effects that, in 1963, surprised and delighted audiences.
Wealthy reformed party girl Melanie Daniels (Hedren) enjoys a brief flirtation with lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) in a San Francisco pet shop and decides to follow him to his Bodega Bay home. Bearing a gift of two lovebirds, ...
| | Day The Earth Stood Still DVD (1951)
Lost Horizon movie DVD
$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience, Helen Benson (Patricia Neal), and her inquisitive ...

Lost Horizon DVD
$18.95 ZATHURA: Actor-turned-director Jon Favreau (SWINGERS, ELF) delivers another work of intelligent, charming family fare with this space adventure based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg (JUMANJI). Older brother Walter (Josh Hutcherson) and the younger Danny (Jonah Bobo) are constantly at war with each another, despite the attempts of their long-suffering father (Tim Robbins) to mediate. When he has to go to the office to replace some papers the boys destroyed in their crossfire, he leaves them in the dubious care of their older sister, Lisa (Kristen Stewart), who is sleeping upstairs. When Danny discovers an old board game called Zathura stored in the basement, his excitement is lost on Walter, who has no time for such old, boring toys. Soon, however, the game becomes impossible to ignore, as the boys are transported into space, and one of them must win in order to make it home again. Each turn brings a new, often dangerous, surprise--the boys are faced with a murderous robot, an explosive meteor shower, and lizard-like aliens--while poor Lisa is cryogenically frozen early in the game. The adventure yields some heartwarming, family-friendly life lessons, and Dax Shepard (IDIOCRACY) is unusually subdued in his role as a stranded astronaut.
