 An acceptable sequel
Following up the first ghostbusters flick was always going to be a challenge for writers/actors Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis but they just about manage to pull it off. This 1989 sequel finds the team coming together again to battle the spirit of a seventeenth century dictator manifesting itself from some "bad vibe" ooze flowing in underground New York. All the principals from the first film are here with Bill Murray's performance as wise-cracking Peter Venkman taking top honours. Ernie Hudson gets a lot more lines this time around and Rick Moranis squeezes out a few chuckles with his performance. Of the supporting cast Peter McNichol is wonderful as the art director whose main exhibit provides the film's focus. After a cracking start the film does tend to slow in the middle but there's plenty of witty dialogue and special effects to keep things ticking over. Overall a competent sequel to one of the biggest titles of the Eighties.
