Kenneth Branagh's treatment of Mary Shelley's Gothic tale is a well photographed and faithful adaptation.

In this adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley tale, Kenneth Branagh stars as Victor Frankenstein, a man possessed by a mission to create life but painfully unaware of the consequences of his actions. He succeeds in his quest to create a man, but his creature (Robert De Niro) is both revolting and tragically aware of the effect he has on others. His creation escapes, and Frankenstein eventually gives him up for dead. The creature, however, is very much alive, tormented by his plight and plotting a horrible revenge. Shelley's novella is given a lush and lurid treatment by Branagh in this epic Gothic tragedy of a man who dares to play God. The film features a cast of strong supporting actors, including Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Hulce, Aidan Quinn, Ian Holm, and John Cleese.   ...See Full Description

Gothic, Hell of A Movie/Story
This film truly captured the essence of Mary Shelly's time. Your room became filled with the stench of the old world and a period filled with great joy and great trajedy. It truly teaches us not to judge and book or anyone without taking the time to look inside.

Mary Shelley would be proud
This film is very close to the original idea that Mary Shelley was trying to convey in her classic novel. The make-up effects are not quite up to par though. This movie is more about the story as opposed to the scare factor. Recommended.

Excellent Acting and Cinematography
This is a beautifully done film. However, the gore was a little over the top for me (although, to be fair, it is done faithfully to the original story). Branagh, as usual, is excellent.

Great Product~Great Prices!
When looking for a unique gift, I usually resort to an "out-of-date" dvd that was & yet always will be a great movie to have on hand. This story is a collector's item in itself & Robert DeNiro does this monster justice! A beautiful performance to inspire the heart & mind...& Kenneth Branaugh always adds a touch of class to anything he acts in. I was very pleased to find this item at the price I did & add it to my collection. THX!

The best acting in a long time!
The pages of the classic story come alive with a ferocious assault on all the senses.

The passion; the sympathy; the incredible emotion passed through by only facial expressions. Kenneth Branagh did a masterful job at keeping this movie in the tone of a period movie, and Robert DeNiro delivers what I feel to be the best performance of his career.
