145 minute feature film special edition DVD. In this sequel to "Wings of Desire," the angel Cassiel, who watches over humanity with pity, sympathy and love, gives up his wings in order to understand how humans feel and think. As he wanders through the troubled city of Berlin, experiencing the new sensations of his earthly body, Cassiel becomes involved in a complex series of events having to do with former Nazis, smuggled weapons and long-lost relatives. The sequel to WINGS OF DESIRE, in which a number of angels, forbidden to interfere with the affairs of humans, watch suspended over the streets of post Cold War Berlin as a tale of intrigue unfolds, has an excellent soundtrack which features tracks by Lou Reed and U2. Far Away, So Close! Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) If you liked City of Angels, you will love this! Original! The movie City of Angels was based on this movie. Although the American version was quite nice, I prefer the original work. The original was actually made by the famous German director, Werner Herzog (the movie was called Himmel Uber Berlin (heaven over the Berlin), which was called On Wings of Desire in America (this is also a must see movie).
I recommend this for the whole family, there is nothing abhorent to be offensive to anyone. Submitted by a reviewer (Atlanta, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Correction The preceding review is incorrect, the film was of course made by Wim Wenders, not Werner Herzog.
Regardless, Wings of Desire, and its counterpart sequel, Faraway, So Close, are both beautiful, lyrical, poetic masterworks. Submitted by barretmichael (Auckland New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Far Away, So Close! film
$10.49 ROMA, the Federico Fellini-directed benchmark of the Italian New Wave, explores the city of Rome from several different perspectives, giving it a mystical life of its own that hangs in the balance between its rich history and its modern identity. With no real chronology, ROMA is a tapestry of bizarre scenes and familiar images (Fellini peppers the film with easily identifiable references to his earlier works) that blend together into a gorgeous visual carnival. Typical of Fellini, with the carnival comes a critique--and ROMA tears through the city's political and religious history, satirizing ...

Far Away, So Close! review
$9.69 In SATYRICON, Italian New Wave director Federico Fellini depicts the hedonistic, amoral, pre-Christian world of ancient Rome. Using the unfinished classical writings of Petronius as his guide, Fellini invents a dreamlike culture full of strange, distant characters and odd, grotesque events. Though the film lacks a definitive plot or narrative structure, its constants are Gitone (Max Born) and Encolpius (Martin Potter), whose unsavory encounters with sex, the theater, and religion are the film's focal point. Presenting a loosely structured episodic tale of decadence and depravity in ancient Rome, SATYRICON follows the adventures of two students as they negotiate their way through a variety of mishaps, dangers, and sexual encounters. What results is a bizarre journey through ancient Rome. This story is a perfect example of Fellini's accomplished skill in bringing fantasy to the screen.
