| | Stranger DVD (1946) Black & White
Iron Eagle film
$6.29 Although many of Welles's most interesting scenes wound up on the cutting-room floor when Spiegel reedited the film, THE STRANGER is still multilayered, complex, and fascinating. The scenes between Welles and Robinson are intellectually gripping, leading up to the stylized, shocking conclusion. As with so many of Welles's films, he was unhappy with the final result, but the viewer won't be. It would be most interesting to see the film as Welles intended it to be, but in the meantime, this version of THE STRANGER is a marvel.
Black & White; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English
THE STRANGER: Orson Welles directed and starred in THE STRANGER, a tense black-and-white thriller that Welles made for maverick producer Sam Spiegel. Welles portrays Charles Rankin, a respected academic at a prominent Connecticut college. He seems to have the perfect life: a beautiful new wife, Mary (Loretta Young); and a charming home in a small town that holds him in high esteem. Enter Mr. Wilson (Edward G. Robinson), ...
| | My Big Fat Greek Wedding DVD (2002) Widescreen
Iron Eagle review
$7.45 Toula Portakalos (Nia Vardalos) feels trapped in her large Greek family, where women are expected to do only three things: "marry Greek men, have Greek babies, and feed everyone until the day they die." Rebelling against this fate, Toula quits the family restaurant, goes to college, fixes her hair, and falls in love with Ian (John Corbett), a guy who is way-too-good-to-be-true, and not Greek. This horrifies Toula's Greek culture-crazed father (Michael Constantine) and sets off a major culture clash between her loud, eccentric family (whose activities include roasting whole lambs on the front-yard barbecue spit) and Ian's subdued, overcivilized Anglo-Saxon parents.
Based on Vardalos' own autobiographical one-woman play, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING is that rare romantic comedy that has the courage to trust its simple, human story and not resort to overwrought Hollywood sentimentality and phony glamour (all the characters in the film look and act like real people). It's also filled with big, fat, crowd-pleasing laughs, making it a wedding most worth attending. Co-produced by Tom Hanks, the movie is set in Chicago, but was filmed in Toronto. The spirited cast includes Lainie Kazan and Andrea Martin (of SCTV fame) as Toula's mom and aunt.
When Toula Portokalos decides to change her life for the better, she starts by getting a new wardrobe, and ends up getting married! But can the quiet daughter in a loud Greek family meet and marry the All-American man of her dreams without breaking ...

Iron Eagle video
$19.55 Director Yasushi Nagaoka's sci-fi mecha anime series GODANNAR breaks new ground in the genre by centering the giant-robot action on a hilariously at-odds married couple. When handsome mecha pilot, Goh, saved the life of pink-haired high school student, Anna, little did he suspect that the two would fall in love and get married. Five years later, the newlyweds' domestic bliss is tested by Anna's desire to become her husband's copilot in a war against an alien race bent on world domination. Complicating Goh's reluctance is the reappearance of his ex-girlfriend and former combat partner, Mira, as well as the machinations of Anna's rival, Shiziru, and the temptations of various scantily clad high school girls, ensuring a dizzying soap-opera atmosphere marked by sexually provocative comedy and intense giant-robot battle sequences. Playfully titillating and vibrantly animated, the action-packed anime kicks off with this first volume of episodes.
Five years ago, as the Mimetic Beasts laid waste to Japan, Dannar Pilot Go saved young Anna Aoi’s life. Now, as they prepare to march down the aisle, a new Beast appears and Go is summoned into battle once more. But he’s not going alone, not if his blushing bride to be can help it! It’s a honeymoon from hell as two stubborn mecha pilots bump heads, egos and other bits; but if Anna and Go can mate their robots’ interlocking parts, they’ll form the ultimate marriage of man, ...
