After the relatively concise song structures and expanded sonic palette of the Painters' previous album, Mark Kozelek and his band of un-merry men return to the extended songforms and minimalistic feel of the band's debut. As ever, tempos lurch along at an appropriately ominous pace, and Kozelek examines the dark side of his soul on "Evil" and "Helicopter." A new development that would soon become a trademark is the band's talent for deconstruction as they tackle both Simon & Garfunkel's alienation anthem "I Am a Rock" (a logical choice) and the "Star Spangled Banner" (!), effectively redefining each to suit their whim. The previous album's "New Jersey" is reprised here in a somewhat more aggressive form, and the Painters continue working the slow-build that is one of their most effective dynamic tools on the epic-length "Blindfold."
Red House Painters: Mark Kozelek (vocals, guitar;, Gordon Mack (guitar); Jerry Vessel (bass); Anthony Koutsos (drums).

Red House Painters (3rd LP) CD music
$10.15 After years on the shelf due to Mark Kozelek's drawn-out problems with Supreme and Island, the Red House Painters' long-awaited Old Ramon finally sees the light of day, thanks to Sub Pop. As it stands, the label needs Kozelek as much as he needs them -- after a few years' worth of disappointing releases from garage rock revivalists, Old Ramon breaks Sub Pop's losing streak. Ironically, the album's long-delayed release only makes its joyous sound ...

Red House Painters (3rd LP) songs
$11.69 Instant Funk, the nine-piece funk unit discovered by Bunny Sigler, created a stir in 1979 when Salsoul released the single "I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)." Swirling, screaming horns announce the chorus; hand claps, tambourines and a maniacal rhythm guitar battle the heavy bottom; and a woman delivers erotic lines for added impact. Salsoul followed the number 20 pop and number one R&B (for three weeks) hit with ...

| | L Boogie Pillow Talk CD (2007)
Red House Painters (3rd LP) album
$12.65 Every once in a while a new album comes along that makes you listen. Uncommon still is one that makes you listen two or three times, but that describes the long-awaited release of Pillow Talk. In his debut release, Muskogee, Oklahoma native, L. Boogie presents an array of musical selections that reflect the ups and downs, as well as the happiness and heartache of love and relationships. It encompasses a variety of tracks filled with lyrical expressions of one's experience with sex, love, lust, infidelity and intimacy; just to name a few. His songs detour from sentimental hip-hop clichés and speak directly to the risks and vulnerabilities of the heart. His stories circumvent conformity, drawing from a deep emotional well where only the brave men dare to go. All this he balances with his gift for witty musical reality, keeping the listener intrigued ...
| | Natalie Logan Broke Down CD (2008)
Red House Painters (3rd LP) CD music
$16.45 A few years ago, a woman walked into a smoky bar, belted out a couple of tunes on stage with the house band, and walked out ready to take on Nashville! Meet Natalie Logan. Natalie Logan isn’t a household name…YET…but this is one woman who is on her way to getting exactly what she wants! Born in Logan, West Virginia, Natalie began singing at a very early age. Home videos still exist of a very young Natalie singing a rousing version of Lynn Anderson’s Rose Garden into the end of a baton. As a child, singing in church allowed Natalie to explore her range and cultivate her sound. Natalie not only has developed a uniquely impressive country sound, her powerful voice and soulful delivery are perfect complements to her musical energy. Listening to her sing is not only a treat to the ear, but also to the heart.Natalie’s soulful roots come for the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia coal country. Natalie was surrounded with heavy country, blues, and bluegrass influences ...
