| Oh come on. This movie rocks! Oh come on. This movie rocks! One of the very best B movies of the 70’s. Ok I did see this movie on TV when I was a small child and yes I was scared for very good reasons. It wasn’t safe to swim in the ocean and now rivers weren’t safe. What next pools? This horror classic is fun to watch with friends just for laughs. Ok you can see the strings on the piranhas, and it is a little unbelievable. Or is it??? I myself highly recommend this movie especially if you like B movies such as, Day of the Animals, SSSSSS, and Alligator. I promise you a good time… Just beware of fresh water! | look! The fins don't move! Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water! Oops, that's "JAWS." But wait... this applies here too. When "Jaws" came out in 1975, it set off the inevitable chain of imitator movies that would follow. This is one of the good ones. Director Joe Dante has always been pretty good at presenting movies with a wink a nudge to the campy horror films of the 50s and 60s (including the casting of Kevin McCarthy). I love the sound effects every time the killer fish are approaching. Almost reminiscent of the killer tomato gathering. The fins don't even move, it's like a screensave sped up! It makes it funny though. I always downgrade most movies for being offered in full frame only, instead of a widescreen transfer. However, I have read that the difference is minimal since it was merely a matted frame (much like the original "Gremlins"). The bloopers are hilarious as well, much like the movie itself. Rumor is there are deleted scenes. Where are they? Oh, well. The entertainment value of this DVD more than makes up for it. And there are actually bonus features on this DVD, which many releases of horror classics seem to be thin in, so that gets brownie points as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
