Although Lunachicks often get lumped in with riot grrrl bands like Bratmobile and Bikini Kill, they often display a wackiness and love of gross-out humor that aligns them more with male punkers like NOFX. What's more, Lunachicks simply have better chops and catchier hooks than many of their peers, an attribute that makes Jerk of all Trades a surprisingly fun listen. Theo Kogan's commanding voice leads the charge with admirable skill, recalling Siouxsie Sioux and even Nina Hagen, while addressing some hilariously juvenile subject matter on songs like "Ring + Run" and "Buttplug." ~ Andy Hinds
Lunachicks: Gina (vocals, guitar); Squid (vocals, bass guitar); Theo (vocals); Sindi (guitar); Chip (drums).

Jerk Of All Trades
$9.79 The Lunachicks' shtick was well in place by the time Babysitters on Acid appeared, a debut which didn't have much to say, but said it with enough base humor and zealous punk antics to keep the spirit of comic anti-revolution alive. Unsurprisingly, like many punk revivalists in the 1990s, ...
| | Stooges Heavy Liquid CDs (2005) (Import) United Kingdom
Jerk Of All Trades
$65.29 Is it possible that someone was following the Stooges around circa 1972-1973, taping their every move? It certainly seems that way, as evidenced by the overabundance of outtakes and demos that has surfaced from the group's Raw Power period. The most exhaustive collection to focus on these tracks arrived in 2005 -- the six-disc box Heavy Liquid. Set up similarly to a previous Stooges box set, Rhino Handmade's 2000 release 1970: The Complete Funhouse Sessions, this is not six discs worth of different rare songs, but rather songs that are repeated over and over again. And unless you're the biggest Stooges fanatic in the universe, there's simply no way you can sit through 13 takes of "I Got a Right." Longtime Stooges fans will undoubtedly be long familiar with ...

Jerk Of All Trades
$32.85 Aussie hard rockers Cold Chisel strut their stuff on this reissue of their album BREAKFAST AT SWEETHEARTS.
This Australian import reissue includes bonus and multimedia tracks, digital remastering, and a deluxe booklet.
Look no further than Aussie quintet Cold Chisel's second album, 1979's Breakfast at Sweethearts, along with the band's eponymous debut disc of the previous year, for the material that took them from little-knowns to mighty pub rock monsters and beyond. In fact, the songs on this album may comprise the best set of any of the band's non-compilation studio discs. But alas, it is a masterpiece tainted by a poor ...
| | Vienna Teng Waking Hour CD (2002)
Jerk Of All Trades
$12.29 Even with her initial, tentative performances while still a student at Stanford, Vienna Teng caused an immediate stir in the California singer/songwriter scene. She self-released her debut LP, Waking Hour, in spring 2001, but consistent Bay Area buzz, strong website sales, and Teng's captivating live show led to interest from Massachusetts indie Virt, which signed her in May 2002. Three of Waking Hour's tracks were then remixed for radio by David Henry (Yo La Tengo; Guster), and an extensive tour brought one of the Bay Area's best-kept secrets to nationwide ears. Teng is an extremely intellectual songwriter who fills the spare moments of her piano-driven songs with wordy unions of personal emotion and reflections on the seasons. While she possesses a powerful voice, it's her command of melody and her subtlety that really stand out on Waking Hour. The Henry-produced tracks -- "Tower," "Gravity," and "Enough to Go By" -- could be considered chamber pop, with their shuffling percussion and lush, quietly surging stings accentuating Teng's gorgeous vocals. At the same time, "Daughter" and "Lullaby for a Stormy Night" are as delicate as hand-blown glass. As heartwarming as the latter song is, where Teng harmonizes with a child's voice on the reassuring line "Everything's fine in the morning/The rain'll be gone in the morning/But I'll still be here in the morning," she's elegantly jaded in the arch, duskily toned "Daughter." "Did you know you're so beautiful on the edge of summer?" she asks in a resolute ...

Jerk Of All Trades
$18.05 Valensia's biographyOnce some strange rumours occured in Japan... Valensia would be a computer-generated popstar! Just like Kyoko, the animated Japanese singer. Well, may be it wasn't that strange after all. Before his hitsong 'Gaia', no-one ever heard of Valensia. Suddenly, he was just there, out of nothing. People saw his pictures. And they saw his videoclips, which were almost completely computer-generated. But no sight of the man himself. No live glimpse of the man from the pictures and the video's. In Japan, Valensia had not shown his face yet.Ofcourse Valensia is not a bunch of binary data. Aldous Byron Valensia Clarkson (his full name) really exists. He was born on April 13th, 1971, in The Hague (The Netherlands). Long before he appeared in computer-generated videoclips, he performed on the beaches of Spain. At that time he was just 7 years old. His voice and his guitar were his instruments, the sand was his stage while the sunbathers were his audience.Obviously he didn't bore his audience to death, because already in 1979 he was offered a recorddeal in Spain. However, his parents rejected the deal as Valensia was not allowed to record his own songs. They also considered him too young for the tough music business. It must have been a disappointment for the young Valensia, who at that time already had his own repertoire. But then, at the age of 20, Valensia was signed up by Mercury Holland. In the fall of 1993, his first single 'Gaia' was released. Within 9 hours after the release, Valensia came to fame as Holland's leading FM-stations played the song all throughout the day. 'Gaia' shot to the top of the charts, only held off the #1 spot by Meatloaf's megahit 'I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)'.Valensia's debut-album arrived in January 1994 and was awarded with both a Silver Harp and an Edison (Holland's most prestigious music award). With the Gaia-video - the most expensive videoclip ever made for a dutch artist - Valensia became a pioneer in computer-animated clips in Holland. Internationally, attention was gained when the video was broadcasted on MTV Europe. Worldwide, 'Gaia' sold over one million copies.Valensia's second album, 'K.O.S.M.O.S', was once again recorded and mixed at the famous dutch Wisseloord studios. Few people know this was the first dutch surround-sound-cd. In Japan, where the ...
