| | Clem Raymond Lost Clarinet CD Clem Raymond Discography of CDs
An intriguing, if flawed, session. Banjo player Dick Oxtot teamed with clarinetist Clem Raymond to record an album of New Orleans stomps, blues and struts in 1958. The results have recently been issued on CD by Delmark, and they're recommended mainly due to Raymond's squiggly, entrancing solos and charming vocals on "Clem's Blues," "Keep Du Dah" and "Just A Little While to Stay Here." Much of the backing band is little more than competent, although they sound enthusiastic and don't bog down the proceedings. But it's Raymond and Oxtot's contributions that make this worthwhile, and a find for traditional jazz fans. ~ Ron Wynn

Lost Clarinet songs
$15.05 Maslov is a gifted pianist that has a keen melodic sense and can express it in contemporary terms. Produced by Stix Hooper of the Crusaders and helped by bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Omar Hakim, the recording consciously drifts in and out of swing and light funk modes. Four of the nine selections were written by Maslov. Of the originals, "Here Comes Juliette" is superior, a definitive melodic statement that swings nicely. Paying homage to Chick Corea's hyper-melodicism on "Living in the ...
| | Dreamers They Sing Like Angels CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Lost Clarinet album
$16.65 Although this 20-track CD is billed to the Dreamers, it's stretching it some to call it a legitimate Dreamers disc. Only two of the songs are billed solely to the Dreamers. Two others are billed to "the Dreamers featuring Richard Berry," on which Berry actually takes lead vocals; a couple of others are billed to Richard Berry & the Pharaohs with Gloria Jones (who was a member of the Dreamers); three are billed to the Rollettes, the name the Dreamers used when recording a couple of singles for Class; a couple of others are billed just to Richard Berry & the Pharaohs, which might, possibly, include Jenell Hawkins, who recorded with the Dreamers at one point, among the backup vocalists. Then there's a side, "The Mess Around," bearing the unwieldy billing of Jenell Hawkins with Richard Berry & the Lockettes, and an instrumental by Googie Rene & His Wham Bams which was on the flip side of one of the Rollettes' singles. Six of the other tracks are billed to Richard Berry and the Dreamers, and one billed just to Richard Berry. It's enough to make your head whirl, figuring out all the connections, and unless you're a dedicated fan, you will probably have to read the liner notes several times over for all of this to click. Of course, it's primarily dedicated fans who will be picking this up, and after all's said and done, it might be of more interest to Richard Berry fans than to anyone else, since he's the featured singer on no less than 13 of the 20 songs. Judged in that light, it's fair mid-'50s ...

Lost Clarinet CD music
$13.29 The History of the Dick Twang Band and The Old Blue Car. circa 1992 Elvis is alive, and at the Dawson, and many other places too. Elvis Manywounds came from Assumption, Alberta. He has been playing and singing and winning talent shows for many years. Elvis tried to get a regular job once but didn't keep it too long, he got too hammered. He played fiddle all the time and got his brother Horace to play bass and regular guitar. Their cousin Seymour Hair always played drums as his family was the original drumming people. He says it's part of his culture. Hair played in the Bowden band and in Prince George for awhile. Elvis and Horace met Dick Twang at the wake for uncle Sylvester in Onion Lake and jammed all one day one saturday and went all the way in Dick's pickup to High Level to do a gig. Elvis called the classifieds radio program in Dawson Creek to try and sell his workboots and some extra vcr's and Horace taped it right from his console stereo and they laughed so hard that they wrote that classic "Elvis at the Dawson"...the hit song "Old Blue Car" came soon after...Elvis drank some lysol like uncle Sylvester used to do and wrote the "Lysol Rap" and told his aunty liz to fuck off, but that was a long time ago and as they say ...
