Principally recorded at The Maryland Inn, Annapolis, Maryland. Includes liner notes by Kevin Howlett.
As is so often the case, the talents of singer Eva Cassidy did note come to public attention until after her death. Cassidy died at a mere 33 years of age in 1996, and up until then she'd only been known in the local music scene of Washington D.C. Subsequently, a word-of-mouth groundswell earned her posthumous popularity in England, which then wafted back over to the U.S. TIME AFTER TIME is a good introduction to Cassidy's work. More an interpreter than a writer, Cassidy completely inhabits everything from Simon & Garfunkel's folky ballad "Kathy's Song" to Joni Mitchell's hippie anthem "Woodstock" and Bill Withers's brooding R&B classic "Ain't No Sunshine." Throughout the album, her singing is consistently both strong and reserved, betraying emotion without resorting to showy indulgence. An apt comparison might be an updated, American Sandy Denny, with whom Cassidy shares a special kind of quiet soul.

Q (9/00, p.121) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Her towering voice, capable of handling Paul Simon's 'Kathy's Song' with fragile dignity, belting out 'Easy Street Dream', and freshening up standards such as 'The Letter' and 'Ain't No Sunshine'..." Mojo (Publisher) (8/00, p.102) - "...Anybody who loves to really sing would give an arm and a leg to come close to recording an album like this one." Eva Cassidy Time After Time Songs Time After Time Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Unique Genera I enjoyed the style and pleasant, soft content. Submitted by moose8749 (Hayward, California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Lyrical and Lovely This one is more consistently lyrical and expressive than some of Eva Cassidy's other CDs, which generally have more tracks that emphasize her high-energy power. This is less blues and jazz oriented than most. But she makes something very special out of some well-known and quite wonderful pop tunes from Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, and others. Recordings are somewhat inconsistent, but not bad at all considering the wide range of circumstances. Submitted by Frank (Kent, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Never a let-down...her voice will take you away. this album is absolutely timeless. eva's ability to cover so many classics with such a enchanting and gorgeous voice purely amazes me. i am a singer myself and to cover such a variety as well as she does, is nearly impossible. tracks like "time after time" and "ain't no sunshine" are so pure and emotional, that you feela s though you are in her shoes. i would definitely recommend this cd. if you do enjoy it, then check out eva's other classic covers found on the album, "Live at Blues Alley". there never will be anyone like eva cassidy. | | Eva Cassidy Eva By Heart CD (1997)
Time After Time music CDs
$13.49 An album both haunting and inspiring, tragic and mesmerizing, Eva by Heart was the singer's only true studio album, and hints at the promise which was never to materialize due to her early demise from cancer. Five of the songs on this set ("I Know You by Heart," "Time Is a Healer," "Wayfaring Stranger," "Wade in the Water," and "Songbird") appear on her Songbird collection. The import version of Eva by Heart contains an extra track, "Dark End of the Street," which does not appear on the American version, or on any of her albums for that matter. The styles range from folksy (the sweet "I Know You by Heart"), to soulful ("Time Is a Healer"), to introspective ("Say Goodbye," "Waly Waly"), to downright rousing ("Wayfaring Stranger," "How Can I Keep From Singing?") and ...
| | Chuck Brown Other Side CD (1992)
Time After Time songs
$14.19 Online CD shops where you can sample tracks before purchasing the disc are especially helpful with Chuck Brown, whose music is rarely programmed on radio. The Other Side consists of '40s and '50s supper-club sounds. Eva Cassidy sings on more than half of the tracks, soloing and performing a number of duets, including "You Don't Know Me," "I Could Have Told You So," and "I'll Go Crazy." The '60s deep soul classic "Dark End of the Street" is the most modern song. Lovers of '50s MOR will love this release; everyone ...
