| | Kathy Mattea Collection Of Hits CD Kathy Mattea Discography of CDs
This 1990 compilation features Kathy Mattea's best work of the '80s, a formative period when the West Virginia-born country singer was just beginning to hit her stride. Given that the honey-voiced Mattea excelled at singles rather than entire albums during the era, this concise set is necessarily comprised of her finest individual tunes, opening with one of her most memorable hits, a gentle cover of Nanci Griffith's poignant "Love at the Five and Dime." COLLECTION also includes other standout songs such as the shuffling "Train of Memories," the road-weary "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses," and the aching "Where've You Been," all of which shine the spotlight on her easy-going brand of folk-tinged country. With many of Mattea's strongest outings (WALKING AWAY A WINNER and LOVE TRAVELS, in particular) released in the mid-'90s, A COLLECTION OF HITS is perfect for listeners merely seeking an overview of her earlier material.
Recorded and mixed at Jack's Tracks, Nashville, Tennessee.

Collection Of Hits CD music
$13.05 Together, Tracy Schwarz and Ginny Hawker make a formidable force. Both have long pursued traditional music, Schwarz with the New Lost City Ramblers and Hawker in a duo with Kay Justice. Fans of either singer will be pleased with their new collection. Good Songs for Hard Times offers 15 songs including traditional material and originals by Schwarz. The arrangements are simple, and this allows Schwarz and Hawker's voices to take center stage. "Fog on the Water," as Hawker points out in the liner notes, closely resembles a Carter Family song. The simple guitar runs, harmony ...

Collection Of Hits album
$9.09 INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album.
Released during Travis' tenure with Warner Bros. but held for release until 2000, Inspirational Journey is the singer's first religious album. In earlier decades, Tennessee Ernie Ford and B.J. Thomas made second careers by recording specifically for the Christian market. Other country singers would record occasional gospel albums, not to sell records, necessarily, but out of love for the music and perhaps a sense of obligation. Consequently, gospel albums by Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, and Dolly Parton ranked among those artists' most satisfying efforts. And such is the case here. Kyle Lehning under-produces almost to the point of this sounding like a Don Williams album. The voice is way out in front and the instruments and background vocalists provide a bed of support. There's occasional seasoning by bluegrass instruments including banjo, fiddle, and Jerry Douglas's ...
