| | Ani Difranco Imperfectly CD Ani Difranco Discography of CDs
On her first two albums, ANI DIFRANCO and NOT SO SOFT, young Buffalo, New York native Ani DiFranco was a woman alone with her acoustic guitar. She cut through the "sensitive folkie" cliche with punk-inspired intensity and a rhythmic ferocity that had at least as much in common with early Elvis Costello as it owed to early Joni Mitchell.
On 1992's IMPERFECTLY, her exceptional third album, DiFranco wisely expands her musical palette. She adds drummer Andy Stochansky (her only constant collaborator from this album onward), an electric bassist, and subtle washes of electric guitar, mandolin, and trumpet to her smartly rendered folk-punk songs. The most inspired musical contribution is the viola solo by Mary Ramsey (10,000 Maniacs, John and Mary) on the Lisa Germano-like "Served Faithfully." The album opens with the stunning "What If No One's Watching?" and "Fixing Her Hair," DiFranco's two finest songs up to that point.

Imperfectly music CDs
$9.19 As she was not yet 20 when her self-titled debut was released, Ani DiFranco largely grew up in public. From the stark beauty of ANI DIFRANCO and the impassioned politics of NOT SO SOFT to the tentative steps into full-band folk-rock of IMPERFECTLY, each album was a marked improvement on the one before. Her fourth record, 1993's PUDDLE ...
| | Ani Difranco Out Of Range CD (1994)
Imperfectly songs
$7.99 1994's OUT OF RANGE, quite possibly the finest of Ani DiFranco's many albums, finds the outspoken Buffalo, New York-based singer-songwriter moving away from the explicit political statements of her earlier records. Here she further explores the more autobiographical terrain of this album's immediate predecessor, PUDDLE DIVE, while also expanding on that album's tentative steps into a full-band ...

| | Russell Smith End Is Not In Sight CD (2002)
Imperfectly album
$13.19 Returning to his solo career after over a decade spent as a Music Row songwriter, former Amazing Rhythm Aces singer Russell Smith released The End Is Not in Sight for Rick Hall's new Muscle Shoals imprint in 2002. Smith's familiar baritone growl, one of the most distinctive blue-eyed soul instruments of the '70s, sounds as good as ever throughout this album, and Mark Hall's production wisely avoids the temptation to make Smith sound like either the Dixie Chicks or Uncle Tupelo. Placed side by side with the Amazing Rhythm Aces' classic '70s records, it's hard to tell which is the new record. Unfortunately, that also applies to the songwriting. This album is larded with pleasant but unnecessary remakes of old Amazing Rhythm Aces hits like the title track, "Third Rate Romance," and "What I Learned from Loving You"; fine songs all, the new versions are simply retreads, adding nothing to the fine earlier versions. Most of the rest of the album consists of Smith's own versions of songs he's written for other artists, like Randy Travis' "Look Heart, No Hands," and these are more successful, but even they remind the listener that Russell Smith is a gifted songwriter who doesn't need to rest on past glories. ~ Stewart Mason
Legendary country soul singer Russell Smith has the most anticipated album of his storied career. Russell, the lead singer of The Amazing Rhythm Aces, broke into national prominence in 1975 with the release of the unforgettable 'Third Rate Romance," which topped both the country charts and the pop charts late that summer. The group went on to win a Grammy, as well as numerous industry awards and continue to record and perform today. Russell however, has a different aspect to his carrer that many casual fans may not ...
