| | Karen Emerson From The Depths CD (2008)
Carols For All Seasons CD music
$18.95 Music is the life and breath of this multi-talented vocalist and consummate performer. Born to a musical and theatrical family in Los Angeles, her performance work and studies began very early with Showcase Theater, piano, drama, voice and flute studies, playing in woodwind ensembles, orchestra, classical and jazz choirs as well as solo jazz and classical performances. Her compelling and unique sound and presence is ethereal and earthy, elegant and gritty, exuberant and melancholy, gregarious and shy, sparkling and dark, warm yet she is one cool kitten, she swings, she floats, she digs, she styles, she loves it... a musician, a performer, an artist with a palette of four octaves, a contralto jazz chanteuse with lyric soprano tones... The song dictates the sound. Her voice is an agile, supple instrument which she shapes with depth and delicacy. You will feel her soul as she touches the essence of the story in the song with utmost respect for the melody and harmonic structure. There is an underlying sense of humor, an infectious joy. What can be said? It's fun for her and for you. She transports, sharing the poignancy, joy and upliftment with the deep release and transcendent language that music is.From the Depths is born from the deep experiences of life and the joy found therein; of miracles, love and friendship, of honoring dreams with unwavering faith and lighthearted perseverance. It is the reemergence of an artist, 23 years in the making. As Karen was emerging as a respected jazz professional, her second son was born with spina bifida, a medically complex birth defect, leaving him paraplegic and involving numerous surgeries, her work in music became a more personal and deeply treasured pursuit. She balanced family priorities as she continued to perform and develop her unique skills all the while holding fast to the dream to bring her music to light throughout the world. Through her intense desire to record and perform, her unwavering vision culminated with the resources to create From the Depths. Her love of jazz and Brazilian music is reflected in this project. Three of the songs are flavored with her own clever lyrics. She recorded two separate sessions calling on brilliant colleagues and mentors with ...
