Hero Theme album
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night.

| | Z-Ro Cocaine CD (2009)
Hero Theme CD music
$15.05 Despite his status as one of hip-hop's most prolific artists, Z-Ro never quite spreads himself too thin. The provocatively titled COCAINE is his second release from 2009, and features his trademark self-aware, yet rapier-sharp lyrics over some of the hotter beats out of the fertile Houston scene. The Intro skilfully sets out the landscape as the dark-vocaled MC reflects upon his choice of a life of street dealing without a shred of remorse, while stressing his decision was not exactly the wise one. From there, Z-Ro, an expert storyteller, wanders from tale to tale, each one delivered with a novelist's touch, on a record which somehow transcends cookie-cutter.
In 2009, Z-Ro's loyal fan base expected Heroin, a two-CD set announced the previous year, but instead they got Cocaine, a one-CD version with many songs that already appeared on the mixtape Codeine. Confusing, and rumors of the rapper's difficulties with the Rap-A-Lot label top it all off, but the good news is that Cocaine is no great disappointment. It does feel a bit disjointed and perhaps cobbled together from tracks recorded for the mythological Heroin, but fans of the rapper spend enough time in the mixtape world that any semi-sensibly laid out Z-Ro release is a step up, and Cocaine is just that. Highlights include "Quarterback," which is filled with football metaphors; the anthem "Southside" with special guest Lil' Flip; and "Can't Leave Drink Alone," which serenades the purple stuff as if it were the sweetest woman Z-Ro has ever known. In another move fans will appreciate, Z-Ro handles most of the production himself, and even if some of these tracks have already debuted on mixtapes, ...

Hero Theme songs
$14.25 With a forceful delivery, a distinctly unique flow rife with head-turning couplets, and an unassailable knack for marketing, Wale (pronounced "wah-lay") built up a world of hype to precede this 2009 debut. Based on the spry "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"-sampling, Lady Gaga-sporting opening single "Chillin'," the DC rapper is poised to deliver a fun-filled record striking a deft balance of pop hooks and chiseled ...
| | Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 3 CD (1996)
Hero Theme album
$13.29 Collectables' Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 3 is another quirky mix of standards and relatively obscure holiday tunes. Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song," Perry Como's "Home for the Holidays," and Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" fall into the latter category, while the Impressions' "Amen," Mavis Staples' "Christmas Vacation," and Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds' "Chrissy the Christmas Mouse" are prime examples of the former. The Supremes' strangely egotistical "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me," Darlene Love's "All Alone on Christmas," and José Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad" are ...

| | Silver Convention Best Of Silver Covention: Get Up And Boogie CD (1994)
Hero Theme music CDs
$10.44 To a large portion of America's 1970s radio listeners, the name Silver Convention is synonymous with "that one-hit-wonder group that sang 'Fly, Robin Fly'." Indeed, the number one pop- and R&B-charting disco jaunt was to be the group's most successful single, followed closely by the similar-sounding number two hit "Get Up and Boogie (That's Right)." But on the strength of that classic, the German studio conglomerate -- spearheaded by producer Michael Kunze and arranger Silvester Levay -- released a total of five albums during the latter part of the '70s and came up with a bundle of international dance hits. Not surprisingly, oodles of CDs compiling these ditties started surfacing with the disco nostalgia of the early '90s. Given that much of the group's material relies on formula -- steady disco backbeat, dramatic strings, and inviting melodic lines sung in unison -- there aren't many differences between most of these collections that will stand out to the average listener. But this collection by Hot Productions is the most hit-laden of the pack and wisely includes the full-length versions of the most important tunes. "Fly, Robin Fly" and "Get Up and Boogie" are each included in nearly eight-minute formations, and ardent disco fans will appreciate the inclusion of staples like "Save Me," "Always Another Girl," "Telegram," and "Spend the Night With Me." An additional smattering of nine internationally charting singles and various album tracks round things out. With 15 tracks total, this collection is a consistent, well-rounded representation of what made Silver Convention more than a one-hit wonder. ~ Justin M. Kantor
