JazzTimes says: "The scope of Titterington's playing is impressive." Equally impressive is the rhythm section on this recording. SF Bay area bassist John Wiitala along with Portland, OR jazz greats pianist Randy Porter and drummer Alan Jones lay down some rock-solid grooves....whether funky, or latin, or bop. Also, the great guitarist Dan Faehnle compliments the proceedings with his unique lyrical Grant Green-esque solos and sensitive harmonic support of the trumpet.

$11.39 Bio PageThere are many events that have occurred in my life which have seemed like accidents or "chances of fate." However, I know that God has a plan for each of us, including me. But in my case, I just don't always see His side of my story. For example, I began playing the guitar at age eleven. My brother Dan had started taking guitar lessons a few weeks earlier, but had to go out of town to work for two or three weeks. In order to keep his spot with the teacher, I filled in for him. Dan never started up the lessons again, but I kept taking them for the next three years. Many years later, another "chance of fate" occurred when it was time to go to college. During high school, I had planned to be a Political Science major, and then go on to law school. That's a laugh now, but I was really goofy in high school. Anyway, when I went to register for college at the University of Colorado in Denver, I could not get any classes I wanted or needed to pursue my goals. So, I went over to Metro State and registered as a Music major. I got every class I needed. So I began my college years majoring in Music instead of Political Science. As "chance" would have it, I chose Music Education just to have something to fall back on in case my career as a rock star didn't work out. Oh, and by the way, I was a trumpet major since they didn't offer guitar at that time. And I'm sure I was the worst trumpet player they had ever heard. In my second year of college, they began offering Classical Guitar as a major, and I quickly took a "chance" and jumped ship into more friendly musical waters. After college, I worked many different jobs in many different fields and played in local bands in the Denver area. I couldn't find a teaching job, but I probably didn't try very hard then anyway. I ended up going on the road with a show band, and I was fortunate to play a lot of great cities all over the country. After my tour of duty on the road, I came back to Denver to "settle down", and I continued to play locally with various groups. I played Country, Classic Rock, and Jazz Fusion. I also played in coffee houses and for weddings as a Classical Guitarist. However, I ended up getting a job as a teacher in Denver, and have been with Denver Public Schools for nineteen years. I started out in Special Education, and have taught everything from Reading to Computer Technology along the way. But most of the years have been spent teaching music. How "lucky" for me that I chose Music Education - "just in case."I have finally finished the CD, "It's All Good." It has been a long road, and one that I thought would take me in different directions, as I'm sure most people do. I had hoped to finish the CD much sooner, but I know the timing is right, even though some of the songs are ...
| | Brad Jazz Group Bietry Skylark CD (2005)
Amber Eyes
$17.09 The Brad Bietry Jazz group consists of four talented musicians in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They are Geoff Torres (Tenor and Soprano Saxophone), J.R. Erb (Bass), Stefan Flores (Drums), and Brad Bietry (Piano). Brad Bietry started the group in January 2005 after getting a steady Friday night jazz gig at The Coffee Warehouse in downtown Colorado Springs. Brad and Geoff are both members of the USAF Academy Band playing in the Falconiers Jazz Ensemble. JR Erb is a veteran of the Air Force Band career field. JR is currently assigned to the Air Force Academy as a Military Training Instructor. Stefan Flores is one of the areas most sought after drummers. He's been playing professionally for many years in many different groups of all genres of music. After many requests for a CD from the loyal fans that come weekly to hear the group at The Coffee Warehouse, they decided to record a selection of tunes that they play regularly that the people enjoy. This CD consists of 5 standards, 1 bebop jazz classic, and 3 original jazz tunes written by Brad Bietry. The CD was recorded with a live studio quality reminiscent of the classic 1950s and 60s Blue Note Recordings. --------- "Foggy Day" was written by George and Ira Gershwin. It is arranged in a tasty med up tempo swing. "Bouncing with Bud" was a tune written by one of Brad's biggest influence, the great jazz pianist/composer Bud Powell. "Bye Bye Blackbird" is an old standard that was recorded by many jazz ...

| | Sam Crain Trio CD (1998)
Amber Eyes
$11.39 Check out the Review of this CD in the current issue of Jazz Improv Magazine! The Sam Crain Trio With bassist Gene Haas and drummer Brian Justison, guitarist Sam Crain debuted this swinging session in 1997. The album includes 'Have You Met Miss Jones', 'Someone to Watch Over Me', 'I Love You', 'Moonlight in Vermont' and other straight-ahead favorites. A lyrical guitarist who phrases seamlessly, Crain makes a ballad come to life. 'Darn that Dream' settles in peacefully with sonorous harmony and expressive improvised work. 'Bluesette', taken in a fast-paced waltz time, flows blissfully with tender persuasion. Crain's guitar utters its refrains with vocal-like passion and a built-in swing attitude. Up-tempo romps, such as 'Tenor Madness', swing hard with the trio's cohesive interplay. Walking bass and ride cymbal provide a plausible foundation for the guitar's crisp and clear bebop drives. He's at his best on the album's three lone originals, pouring forth with lyrical charm and a loving caress. They're solo pieces, however, and provide a different slant on the guitarist's work. Recommended, Sam Crain's mainstream session offers a fully relaxed setting for the display of his virtuosic technique and swinging expression. - Jim Santella LA Jazz Scene Feb. '05 Here is a midwest guitarist whose trio shines on a group of standards like One Note Samba, Bluesette, Have You Met Miss Jones and even Sonny Rollins' Tenor Madness. Add three originals to the mix and you have a nicely balanced album with Mr Crain in fine form. ...
