this is the most ska-style cd from the band.. i rather the duck and cover and rock the plank.. is a bit more hardcore than the others.. four stars!

This record from the Upsetter's catalog contains some of his best-known work from the end of his ska period. Included are tracks like "Return of Django" and "Cold Sweat," both significant hits for Scratch. Soon, very soon, Perry would move afield from what is here, moving toward something this record only drops dark hints about. For those who love the later stuff, this will make you shake your head at how far he came and how quickly. In 1969, following stints at Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One and a period as a freelance producer, Lee "Scratch" Perry struck out on his own as the Upsetter (a trinity of label, personal moniker, and backing band). The year saw Perry focusing on instrumental terrain with a group of veteran rock steady players that included (in its original incarnation), bassist Clifton "Jackie" Jackson, guitarist Lynford "Hux" Brown, pianist/arranger Gladstone "Gladdy" Anderson, and organist Winston "Brubek" Wright. Return of Django collects some of the group's early efforts. The title track earned Perry his first taste of international success, and it's easy to see why.
