| | Monochrome Set Misere CD - Import Monochrome Set Discography of CDs
The most low-key of the Monochrome Set's studio albums, MISERE is a largely acoustic, often minor key collection of country-tinged pop songs. This is not to say that it's in any way mellow; the manic "Integrate Me" is as hyper as anything from the days of STRANGE BOUTIQUE, while Bid's lyrics are as odd and dryly satiric as ever.
"The Ethereal One" and "Handsome Boy" are two of the highlights, with the Steely Dan-like single "Milk and Honey" also a favorite. "Achilles," oblique lyrics and all, is one of the band's loveliest creations. The album ends with one of Lester Square's patented instrumentals, this one an Ennio Morricone/Duane Eddy homage descriptively titled "Twang 'em High." While perhaps not as immediately accessible as the Monochrome Set's earlier albums, MISERE is a satisfying collection of tunes.

Misere album
$18.59 1995's TRINITY ROAD is the Monochrome Set's ninth album overall, and their last before the second extended hiatus of their career. In many ways a summation of the second incarnation of the band, TRINITY ROAD is musically quite smooth and melodic, well produced and cannily arranged. This serves to highlight singer-guitarist Bid's odd, sometimes surreal, occasionally gently ...

This quartet has developed a sound that is at once smooth, controlled and sweet. Yet for all its mainstream and popular appeal, the Four Freshmen's crooning harmonics is a force of nature, unlike anything that came before or after it. These are trained voices, full and pervasive, and the strength is quadrupled when thy sing in close unity. The exotic "Poinciana" relied solely on the four voices in harmony to create the powerful feeling of this song, and a guitar only aids them.

$12.85 Ashleigh Flynn and her collaborators have combined the best elements of folk and rock to create an evocative soundscape on Chokecherry. The lyrics to songs like "Borrow" and "Isa" may say "singer/songwriter," but the Wurlitzers, electric guitars, and drums that back them up say "pop/rock." The arrangements vary quite a bit from song to song, ...
