Pete McCann is one of the few contemporary guitarists that follows his own musical path. While his sound certainly borrows from such influences as Metheny, Frisell and Scofield, his synthesis of these elements makes all the difference. His unique musicality, unbridled enthusiasm and inventive soloing are presented expertly on PARABLE, his first disc as a leader. His electrified pallet and knack for expressive phrasing gives this music a compelling shape and texture all its own.
The quirky swinger "Grimlock" kicks off the set with plenty of swagger and searing performances by McCann and saxophonist Peter Epstein. To get a sense of McCann's personality, check out how the dynamic title track subtly builds from gentle beginnings to its final eruption into the guitarist's Van Halen-like solo. Drummer Matt Wilson's inventive use of percussion lends colorful shadings to tracks like the mysterious "Open Gate" and the very free-form "Hoevenen." Many other styles saturate McCann's perspective like the unmistakable country of "Hoedown" and "Sheriff Bob" and the raucous slam-fest known as "Victim Sweepstakes." In all, this is a refreshing and inventive set by one of the most creative young artists on the modern scene.

| | Roy Buchanan Live In Japan CD (2003) (Import) Germany
Parable CD music
$18.39 LIVE IN JAPAN was recorded during the British blues guitarist's 1977 Japanese tour, and includes both Roy Buchanan originals and covers ranging from Larry Williams' "Slow Down" to Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams."
Live in Japan (2003) is said to have been Roy Buchanan's favorite of all his platters, and ironically, it was never issued stateside. However, as word spread, the title became an essential addition to his discography. Fact is that it may have never come out at all, had there not been a loophole in Buchanan's contract with former label Polydor, giving them control over his non-North American output. Joining the guitarist for his 1977 tour of Japan are John Harrison (bass), Malcolm Lukens (keyboards), and Byrd Foster (drums/vocals). They are likewise ...

$16.78 | | Al Caiola Bonanza! 1960-1969 CD (2002)
Parable songs
$17.75 Al Caiola was a well-known, much-recorded professional guitarist of the '60s. He was a session musician, which led to his featured role as the musical conductor for RCA's album series Living Guitars, and he also had a recording career for United Artists, recording numerous instrumental albums for them between 1960 and 1969, the period covered on Raven's 33-track 2002 collection Bonanza!. The title, of course, comes from Caiola's biggest hit -- his sweeping, widescreen version of the smallscreen Western epic's theme song which, along with his similar version of Elmer Bernstein's "The Magnificent Seven," hit the charts in 1961. These were the only times he charted, but he continued recording prolifically, since he was contractually obligated to deliver 60 tracks to RCA per year. That led to a whole lotta music, and since it was unabashedly commercial -- his rumbly, echoey guitar cut its way through sweet strings and blaring brass, occasionally vocal choruses -- and often ...

| | Reserved Window CD (2009)
Parable CD music
$12.69 Reserved is a very unique sounding rock band from garden grove, ca. they started in about 2000. Being a sophmore in highschool Russell Richards (vocal and guitars) had never sang he was mainly an intrumentalist. I played a lot with my cousins Chris and Eric Sorem and in the high school jazz band, I never thought to even have the guts to sing. He mentions thats where the name Reserved comes from. I had a friend Tawny who mentioned I should try and write a song and she is one of those real genuine people who when they would mention something you knew it was from the heart so I figured I'd give it a genuine shot. It was wierd it just sorta came easy all these ideas and lyrics started pouring out. I played it for her over the phone and she immediately told her friends and word spread through ...
