Produced by Jim O'Rourke and Tortoise's John McEntire, histrionic rocker Bobby Conn's THE GOLDEN AGE achieves a more polished sound than his two previous albums. What isn't lost is Bobby's outrageous and controversial lyrical content combined with a falsetto vocal range that draws comparisons to both David Bowie and Prince. On THE GOLDEN AGE, Conn combines '70s glam rock with a raucous punk sensibility, all the while cementing his reputation as a consummate showman.

After the David Bowie-produced classics THE IDIOT and LUST FOR LIFE (both released in 1977), Iggy Pop released the in-concert TV EYE LIVE in '78, and planned his next move. Instead of continuing in the groundbreaking art-rock direction of the two aforementioned albums, Iggy reunited with ex-Stooges guitarist James Williamson for a more straight-ahead rock approach, resulting in 1979's NEW VALUES. Although not as consistent as its predecessors, NEW VALUES contains several tracks that showed Iggy was still capable of composing gripping rock.
Produced by Williamson, the album is not as over-the-top or raging as Williamson and Pop's last major studio release, Iggy & the Stooges' RAW POWER (1973)--icy new wave sounds are merged with the expected red-hot ...

Seemingly far from the chaotic no wave of DNA, Arto Lindsay continues his explorations into the subtleties of Brazilian pop music. Throughout Invoke, avant-gardisms bubble just below the surface in strange loops and weird drumbeats, occasionally finding their way to the top (such as on "In the City That Reads"). Lindsay fuses the ideas of the art pop of David Byrne with the haunting samples of Soul Coughing's Mark de Gli Antoni. The result is a magical, atmospheric disc that is ambient in its effect with enough surface-level tension to keep the listener engaged. It is undoubtedly mood music.
