Standard Screen; Second Audio Track; Soundtrack English A recent widow (Ferrell) and her daughter travel to Wyoming in 1910, to work as housekeeper for a stern rancher (Torn). Once there she decides to try and homestead a piece of land of her own, but the year that follows is full of harsh weather and isolation. A moving drama about life on the frontier, well acted and understated. Based on the real-life frontier diaries of Elinore Randall Stewart. Heartland Reviews: "...A film with heart….[Pearce] handles this simple tale with a nice balance of regional feel and elemental drama that make him a director to watch..."
-- Mosk., Variety "...Uncommonly beautiful....Firm and realistic in its appreciation of its people and the quality of their lives."
-- Vincent Canby, New York Times

Heartland Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) realistic life in Wyoming 1910 A moving story of a man and a woman struggeling to survive on the Wyoming frontier. A Heartwarming Story This movie displayed the silent love between a man and a woman in a time in history when life on the prairie was hard and cruel. I feel the director and producer of this movie caught both of these things and I will continue to watch it over and over without ever being bored. It totally warmed my heart. Just for anyone's curiosity, Clyde and Elinore had three more sons after they lost their first son. They are in the census records of 1910, 1920, and 1930. NO BELLS & WHISTLES! A VERY GOOD LOOK @ THE LIFE, HARDSHIPS & BOREDOOM OF FRONTIER LIFE @ THE TURN OF THE CENTURY. IT'S NICE TO WATCH A MOVIE ABOUT REAL LIFE & THE LITTLE JOYS THAT A FAMILY CAN SHARE THAT HOLD ONLY MEANING FOR THEM. Submitted by lonewolf4848 (SPRING, TEXAS, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Great Movie One for the ages. Submitted by a reviewer (Arlington, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Truth about the frontier A marvellous, true movie about the way it was with the pioneers in the US and Canada.Visually, the most striking thing was that the director and cameraman caught the true vistas of the rolling shortgrass country far better than the artificial depictions of Monument Valley and elsewhere. People and horses got lost in the sea of silvery short grass.
And the story was perfect -- I ought to know, my mother was like Elinore Randall and I was born on a bush cattle ranch in Canada. Submitted by maven (Keswick ON Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Heartland review
$9.69 In PLATOON, Oliver Stone draws on his experience as an infantryman in Vietnam to convey the brutality of guerrilla warfare: the heat of the jungle, the brushes with such wildlife as snakes and leeches, and, most powerfully, the presence of the unseen enemy. Charlie Sheen stars as Chris, a raw recruit, or "new meat," who serves as the film's narrator. At first he wilts under the rigorous conditions of jungle life, freezes up in a fire fight, and wonders whether he'll be able to survive. But he gradually adapts and, as time goes by, begins to see that the platoon is divided into two groups. One consists of lifers, ...
