"Kryptonite" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.
The success story of 3 Doors Down starts typically enough. An aggressive and unrelenting phone campaign to radio stations for their breakaway single "Kryptonite" snowballed into a showcase at New York's legendary CBGB's and a deal with Universal Records. The Escatawpa, Missouri quartet offers a sound that is grounded in '90s alternative rock but doesn't ignore the contributions of hard-rock music's foundations from the '60s and '70s.
"Loser" finds 3 Doors Down using Alice In Chains-influenced minor-key vocal harmonies and acoustic-then-electric dynamics. In "Duck and Run," vocalist/lyricist Brad Arnold urges fans to remain positive despite life's trials. The delicate balance of human relations is explored in "Not Enough." In "Be Like That," Arnold sings of a daydreamer's envy, sounding like a heavier Matchbox 20. Though the band began as a power trio, with Arnold on drums and vocals, 3 Doors Down added a second guitarist and a drummer to fatten its sound for THE BETTER LIFE.

I'd say this is my favorite 3 Doors Down album. It is a CD you can listen to a fair bit and not get bored or sick of listening to it. I enjoy listening too all the song, but the songs that particularly stand out to me are; " Kryptonite", " Duck and Run", " Be Like that", " Better Life", " Smack", and " So I Need You".

 The better life
This cd does not sound anything like creed. There is a hint of George Lynch guitar riffage but that is not a bad thing. THIS IS CD IS A GREAT SOLID RELEASE. Scott Stapp is a cockey wannabe Jim Morrison. Three Doors Down have talent and originality. cd is worth a listen

Great Stuff
I would totally recommend buying this album as it rocks! At first I didn't listen to much other than Kryptonite, Duck and Run, Not Enough and Better life since I had heard them before but the more I listen to it, the more I start to like the other songs as well. I now think that all the songs rock due to the wicked as lyrics and cool band.

My brother first got me into this band and I also heard the song "Kryptonite" and after that I just decided to go buy it. At first I wasan't too impressed with the album, but the album does grow on you. The singles alone are worth buying this cd. Key tracks on here are "Kryptonite", "Loser", "Duck and Run", and "Down Poison." So if you want to hear a good strong debut by a good band I suggest you buy this album.
