Dan Lavery (Fender Rhodes piano, Moog bass pedals, bass, background vocals).
An oasis in a desert of souring pop bands--that's the best way to describe Tonic's sophomore release, SUGAR. The trio delivers hooks like a prizefighter, and their balance of tension and melody makes for consistently memorable songs. "Knock Down Walls" is an anthem of love and manipulation, as vocalist/guitarist Emerson Hart sings, "you always grab a hold of the ones you can change/just a group of loner zeroes who will play your game."
Tonic's country rock roots shine brightly on the title track, while the emptiness of celebrity worship is played out in "Queen." "Waiting For the Light to Change" is a tender ballad describing the moment where one faces the harsh reality of loneliness. The Beatlesque "Sunflower" has some of Hart's most poetic lyrical moments, such as "when the wind blows I will kiss you like sunshine/stealing pieces from a perfect sky." TONIC effectively uses simple arrangements and incredibly singable melodies, making SUGAR a musical remedy that goes down as sweetly as its name.

Rolling Stone (2/3/00, pp.61-2) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...the most consistently catchy set of modern-rock ditties since the Goo Goo Dolls' DIZZY UP THE GIRL....But it's killer pop melodies and revved-up guitar parts that ultimately set Tonic apart..." Sugar Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Tonic tastes best Although there's no 'If you could only see' or 'Open your eyes' on this album, there's a lot to enjoy. 'You wanted more' will undoubtedly be one of my all time favorites. And there's more. Tonic really produced a great album. Submitted by a reviewer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? Best CD... This CD goes through so many emotions and really gets to the core. These tracks are really someone's blood, sweat and tears...it shows through the tone in the songs. This CD will be in my albumn for many years...but then again Tonic will forever be my favorite band. Submitted by junebug012 (Charlotte, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
You wanted more - and got more than before! Tonics debut "Lemon Parade" was a good album. With songs like the rocking "Open up your eyes" and the soft and groovy song "If you could only see". This gave us big expectations on their follow up. Tonic did not fail. "Suger" is a wonderful album. A display of modern melodic rock at it's best. The melodies are memorable and the lyrics are well written. Emerson Harts beautiful voice suites the music perfectly, and sets a good mood from the first tone played. Highlights on this CD are "Sugar", "Waiting for the Light to change", "You wanted it more" and "Future says run". This is simply a great buy! INCREDIBLE DISC! Tonic is a great group, and their music is only getting better! I saw them live with the Goo Goo Dolls, too, and they rocked! This CD is full of emotion, and its sounds are pretty diverse. "You Wanted More," of course, is an awesome song. Other great tracks: "Future Says Run," "Knock Down Walls," "Mean to Me," Sugar," and "Drag Me Down." This is one of the best CDs ever- if you liked their first disc, "SUGAR" will totally blow you away!! Submitted by a reviewer (Wheeling, WV) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$8.65 Third Eye Blind has enough vision to swerve clear of the sophomore jinx. While you won't find a "Semi-Charmed" on BLUE, there is enough thoughtful, well-crafted pop to keep the band in the grace of its fans. The album opens with the short, blistering "Anything," a track that cuts out just as the song's hook pulls you in. The radio-friendly ...

$272.59 This expansive collection of material from Gene Vincent includes over 200 of his best songs, and is packaged with an informative book on the legendary star.
No other Gene Vincent song title sums up his career so succinctly as "The Road Is Rocky." Vincent never had an easy time of things. He came crashing out of the gate with "Be-Bop-A-Lula," one of the epochal singles of early rock & roll, and for a brief moment it seemed that superstardom was within his grasp. Certainly, in the Blue Caps -- powered by guitarist Cliff Gallup -- he had a band that propelled him into the front ranks of rockers in 1956, and for a while they cut rockabilly with no peer, such as the frenzied "Race with the Devil." But this golden age was not only fleeting, it didn't produce much gold, at least far as the charts were concerned: as good as "Race with the Devil," "Bluejean Bop," and "B-i-Bickey, Bi, Bo-Bo-Go" were, they didn't turn into hits, and soon Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps started to fracture, starting with the crucial departure of Gallup. It was a big blow, but Vincent continued to barrel ahead, often recklessly. He toured Britain, where his stardom was already hardening into a tragic legend, and ran through label after label, all looking for a hit that was ne
