$19.49 Sammo Hung plays Courageous Cheung, a cuckolded husband who faces a series of supernatural challenges from his wife's wealthy lover. First, Cheung must survive a night in a house haunted by a bloodthirsty vampire. From there, things just get worse--and more comical. For those unfamiliar with the Chinese horror genre, the film is a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride through the supernatural mythology and folklore of China: Hopping corpses, supernatural possession by a monkey god, the gratuitous sacrifice of a chicken, and lots of chanting by Taoist priests will all seem pretty trippy. For Chinese ...

| | Tears For Fears Songs From The Big Chair (1985) (Import) Hong Kong
Magnificent Butcher DVD
$19.69 This remastered version of SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR contains the omitted title track, rare b-sides and US re-mixes.
Additional personnel includes: Neil Taylor (guitar); William Taylor, Mel Collins (saxophone); Andy Davis (piano); Chris Hughes, Jerry Marotta (drums); Marilyn Davis, Annie McCaig, Sandy McLelland (background vocals).
Digitally remastered by Jon Astley and Chris Hughes (1999 Close To The Edge).
Although the opening track, "Shout," takes on the theme of catharsis that dominated THE HURTING two years earlier, the progression evident from that debut to SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR is manifest in every other facet. While many of the band's synth-pop peers continued to develop along a linear route, Tears For Fears vaulted into the potentially insipid world of '80s MOR.
Curt Smith sings on the radio-friendly "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," but Roland Orzabal's stronger voice takes center-stage for much of the album, including the spirited single "Mother's Talk" and a falsetto on the stadium-sized "Head Over Heels." "The Working Hour" is the perfect realization of the new sound: a smooth six-minute arrangement of saxophone, piano, and guitar that's marked by a restrained sense of drama. SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR is an excellent album and, shading Simple Minds' ONCE UPON A TIME, ...

Magnificent Butcher movie DVD
$16.29 Additional personnel includes: Mystikal, Mr. Cheeks (rap vocals); Dave Hollister (background vocals).
Blackstreet may have broken up over creative differences and corporate reshuffling at their label after the release of 1999's FINALLY, but the lure of working within a group format again proved too much for Teddy Riley, who reformed the group for 2003's LEVEL II. Riley's status as the father of new jack swing means these 17 songs bristle with the kinds of grooves and beats that found his trademark sound serving as the bridge between the electro-funk of the '80s and hip-hop-driven R&B of the '90s. Peppered with plenty of scenarios of pursuit and seduction, some of Riley's more overt musical innuendoes include a moanin' remake of a Rose Royce track re-titled "Ooh Girl," the future Quiet Storm classic "Deep" where Chauncey Hannibal makes like Prince with a vocoder, ...

Magnificent Butcher DVD
$22.59 Based on VILE BODIES, the novel by Evelyn Waugh, this colorful trifle is set in 1920s London at the height of its raucous swing era, when society balls and bacchanalian behavior were all the rage. Adam (Stephen Campbell Moore) is a young, carefree writer whose circle of eccentric friends keep him out at parties all night long. Wild costumes, dancing, cocktails, cocaine, and positively "divine" company make a life of neverending revelry totally attainable. While Adam never seems to have a dime in his pocket, he does not seem to care. The only thing he risks is the opportunity to marry his glamorous sweetheart Nina (Emily Mortimer) whose father insists she wed for financial gain. In an effort to appease Nina and her father, Adam gleans a few dollars from his job as a gossip columnist, until his intimidating boss (Dan Aykroyd) fires him for inventing fashion trends. But every dollar makes is lost within no time at all on whimsical materialistic purchases and risky endeavors such as betting on horses. Finally the war starts, bringing the decadence to a disturbing halt and forcing Adam to finally sober up. A quaint period piece full of jumping Charleston ...
