Although the concept of Fozzy -- an American metal band trapped in Japan for 20 years finds that its material has been stolen by other artists -- suggests parallels with Spinal Tap, there's one very important difference: Spinal Tap wrote all its own original material, whereas Fozzy sticks exclusively to covers. So, in practice, when it's divorced from the story line of the accompanying web broadcasts, Fozzy just feels like an excuse for Chris Jericho and Stuck Mojo to perform their favorite early-'80s metal songs. But, considering that Fozzy is in reality a rap-metal band fronted by a professional wrestler, the album is surprisingly not bad. Jericho is a more than competent vocalist, and despite an occasional tendency to go a little too far over the top ("Over the Mountain" and the spoken intro to "The Prisoner"), he generally acquits himself well. The band, meanwhile, injects enough technical flash and showmanship to sound like a genuine early-'80s metal outfit. What's more, the all-around enthusiasm for this music is readily apparent (either that, or faked really well); it's played straight all the way through, with no attempts to make anything into ironic kitsch. So, all in all, the project turned out as well as was probably possible. Still, since these are all covers of fairly familiar items, Fozzy the album can't really stand on its own; it will likely be appreciated mainly by fans of the web series or of the people involved. ~ Steve Huey

A Fun Ride Metal as it should be! Powerful and fun! The covers are awsome and the new songs rock!
Brings back the memories of the great times we had with this music. A must have. Submitted by a reviewer (Colorado) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Cover Band Horrible job! They destroyed perfectly good DIO (Stand Up And Shout) and SCORPIONS (Blackout) songs. I mean, it's great that they were influenced by good music, but get something original guys. Submitted by a reviewer (Moscow, ID) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Turgid nonsense. ...and all at once we are transported back to 1988, with a bar band in the corner mechanically knocking out some covers in order to "get the chicks, man." Can you see the few hangers-on dancing near the front, cooing at the singer's moves, while the guitarists flick the hair out of their eyes? The guitars squeal and so do the girls.
This is no fun; I want a REAL metal band with REAL music. I'm going outside in the car-park to be sick, and it's not just the beer's fault.

Purchase Fozzy CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Whitesnake Snakebite CD (1978)
Fozzy album
$6.19 Snakebite barely qualifies as a Whitesnake album. Vocalist David Coverdale had just assembled the band, and in fact, half of the songs contained here had been recorded by the singer nearly a year before for an abandoned solo outing. With this in mind, one can understand why most of the cuts either suffer from a lack of creative direction, the players' limited musical interaction, or both. Of the tracks credited to Whitesnake the band, the best results are achieved on the rollicking "Come On" and the bluesy "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City," the latter eventually being their first ...

Fozzy CD music
$10.49 Despite its status as a side project for wrestling star Chris Jericho and his friends in Stuck Mojo, Fozzy can still deliver some solid heavy metal. Unlike the first album, this is not a cover-only affair. Jericho and guitarist Rich Ward do their best to write songs that can hang with the Judas Priest and Iron Maiden covers they attempt here. And in a lot of ways, the original songs come off more effectively than the covers. This is no doubt because of the group's passion for power metal, which translates into catchy and solid songs, like the tense "To Kill a Stranger" and the pounding title track. Jericho's delivery is right on, dropping the semi-shouting he displayed on the last album and replacing it with a gruff banshee wail. His voice might waver at moments, but no worse than half the metal singers they pay tribute to here. The covers are less effective, but W.A.S.P.'s "L.O.V.E. Machine" gets a vicious run through that certainly ranks with Fozzy's best performances, and "Balls to the Wall" fits Jericho's strained growl perfectly. Nothing here is groundbreaking or essential, but this is a consistent album that would've easily landed them on Noise Records during the heyday of power metal. And the original songs prove that the band has a lot of potential outside of the gimmicky cover approach they started with, leading to leaner and more efficient sophomore effort from the boys in Fozzy. ~ Bradley Torreano

| | Paul Weller Modern Classics: Greatest Hits CDs (1998)
Fozzy music CDs
$13.29 For the U.S. market, the word "classics" is perhaps employed here with a certain irony, given that the vast majority of American listeners continue to turn the proverbial deaf ear to Weller's work. (of course, back in England, where he's a god, of course, these songs really were hits.) In any case, MODERN CLASSICS collects the best cuts from Weller's four solo albums released between 1992 and '97, the period when the former Jam-meister finally forged a coherent style out of his love for late-'60s artists like Traffic, the Small Faces, the Move, et al. What's particularly impressive is how the whole thing coheres. Despite the varying recording locations, dates, and personnel, the songs here sound like they were all bashed at one marathon all-night session.
Personnel: Steve White (vocals, guitar, piano, organ, percussion); Chris Bangs (vocals, guitar, electric piano, bass guitar); Carleen Anderson (vocals, accordion, bass guitar); Jamie Johnson (strings); Simon Fowler (accordion); Brendan Lynch (Fender Rhodes piano, bass guitar); Max Beasley (organ); Dr. Robert, Steve Cradock, Yolanda Charles (drums).

$18.99 I love cocktail parties. Well, actually, I really love to people watch at cocktail parties, and the eavesdropping is fascinating, too. No, really… try this – the next time you arrive at a party, go right to the bar and grab your favorite martini, mojito or diet delight. Then make your way through the crowd. As you walk, really listen to the snippets of conversations that float all around you. On one such evening recently, I observed and overheard almost every aspect of love- long time couples still gushing over each other, and other couples who’d had a fight just before they came in. There were people introducing two friends for the first time, couples celebrating years together, and singles flirting. It was all there. The collection of songs on this recording were compiled based ...

| | Sex & Drugs & Rock 'N' Roll: The Best Of Ian Dury And The Blockheads - (Deluxe) CD (1992) Remastered
Fozzy CD music
$13.99 The late Ian Dury was probably the most lovable figure to emerge from the late '70s UK punk movement. Rooted in pub rock and jazz, his songs were less confrontational than those of his cronies (though not without their share of controversy, as with the plainspoken title track). Dury's lyrics, endlessly clever without seeming show-offy, were brilliant, ranging from tender ballads like "Sweet Gene Vincent" to hilarious rants like "Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3)" and "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards." The Blockheads, led by the excellent jazz-rooted pianist Chaz Jankel and the strapping drummer Mickey Gallagher, ...
