This remarkable band are about combining cutting-edge programming, sultry and sexy vocals, with tubthumping beats. Their full-length debut album is a funky mixture of trip-hop, hip-hop, soul, jazz, electronica, and everything else that has musically influenced these four musically diverse individuals.
Take the Brand New Heavies, mix with Portishead, and throw in some Roni Size and Daft Punk. Forget trying to imagine what it's like--just jump in the pool. Songs like "Never The Same," "Last Girl On Earth," and "Nothin' Like Tomorrow" are trippy, cosmic blasts of cool. SUPREME BEINGS OF LEISURE are a kaleidoscope of musical elements; they contain multitudes..

Rolling Stone (3/2/00, p.100) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...The album is of-the-moment only the debuts of professional high-lifers can be, yet it is also, given its vague '80s drifts, a touch old-fashioned....[They] indulge in a cool distance..." Alternative Press (4/00, p.103) - 3 out of 5 - "...a deliciously seductive affair....singer Geri Soriano-Lightwood purrs and growls, a knowing grin peeking through her vocal inflections..." Supreme Beings Of Leisure Songs Supreme Beings Of Leisure Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) groovalicious Sweet funky tunes great for lounging. I love it!! Submitted by Amy (St. Louis, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent! If you like lounge, this is great. Swanky, mellow. The lyrics are smooth and beautiful. The tunes are rhythmic and moving. I love it. Submitted by citrineopal (Honolulu, HI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Groovy Tunes and Cool Beats I don't know exactly how to classify this group. There are numerous styles happening, but it all mixes very well together. The singer's voice is so hypnotizing, that you may find yourself playing this cd repetitiosly. However, if you are not the type to adapt to new styles, then this probably isn't for you. For the open-minded, i definately urge you to purchase this great debut album from such a talented group of people as the Supreme Beings of Leisure! Supreme Beings Of Leisure CD music
$12.59 Eric Hilton and Rob Garza, the Washington, D.C. duo better known as Thievery Corporation, continue to refine their previously established style on THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON. For their third proper album of new material, they continue to mine a mellow electronica groove with jazz, pop, and world music flavorings mixed in among the expected reggae, soul, and funk elements. The title tune and "The State of the Union" focus heavily on the reggae aspects of Thievery Corporation's sound, while "Liberation Front" bears more of an acid-jazz feel. The closing track "Resolution" (along with a few others) is more in line with that ethereal trip-hop flow for which Hilton and Garza are perhaps best known. On the graphics side, a great deal of time appears to have been put in to the package here, which includes a thick and evocative photo booklet whose striking, occasionally off-kilter images provide an excellent visual equivalent to the music.
Rob Garza and Eric Hilton consider it their most introspective work to date. Existing somewhere between rock, dub, psychedelic, Latin, and electronic music, this 2002 album finds the duo elevating their signature sound with more contemplative and thought-provoking songwriter. The jewelcase is housed in a slipcase along with a 40-page black & white photo booklet. ...

Supreme Beings Of Leisure songs
$22.19 THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING is a sensual and sensitive adaptation of Milan Kundera's tragicomic existentialist novel that follows the story of Thomas (Daniel Day Lewis), a womanizing Czech doctor in 1968 Prague, prior to the Soviet invasion, whose sexual appetite is never fully satisfied. Thomas believes in keeping sexual gratification separate from love and finds true understanding and erotic bliss with Sabina (Lena Olin), a seductive and elusive artist. However, Thomas's understanding of love and commitment is challenged when he meets Tereza (Juliette Binoche), a sexually naive and innocent young woman who captures Thomas's fancy on an out-of-town business trip. When Tereza appears on his Prague doorstep, Thomas lets down his guard and allows the young woman to stay with him, breaking all his rules regarding the dangers of seductive entanglement. Despite his numerous affairs, Thomas falls deeply in love with Tereza, and they eventually marry. Sabina accepts Thomas's marriage to Tereza, but Tereza cannot accept Thomas's many lovers and is deeply hurt by her sly husband. Tereza's own sexual awakening and creative spirit is at the core of the film, as she is undeniably captivating to both Thomas and Sabina, who becomes her friend and artistic mentor. The three become involved in an intense love triangle that is eventually shattered by the violent Soviet invasion of ...
| | Placebo CD (1996)
Supreme Beings Of Leisure album
$10.35 Placebo was an intriguing combination of a Swede, a Swiss, and an American, who formed in Luxembourg and ended up sounding very British, in a post-punk sort of way. Signed for a reputed large advance (partly owing to their marketable, androgynous singer, Brian Molko), the quality of their songwriting was demonstrated on their excellent debut. "Nancy Boy," a surprising hit single, is in fact one of the lesser tracks on the album, with much more depth to be found in songs like "Bionic," "Come Home," and "I Know," the latter coming complete with didgeridoo. This tenth anniversary reissue includes five additional tracks and a bonus DVD, containing rare footage of seven live appearances, as well as promotional videos.
