To this day, Another Perfect Day remains one of the most unique (albeit misunderstood) albums in the entire Motörhead catalog. The band's first effort sans legendary axe-meister "Fast" Eddie Clarke (following six albums, of which at least three are still considered timeless classics), Another Perfect Day would be the band's only outing with onetime Thin Lizzy axeman Brian "Robbo" Robertson. Clearly a nervous musical marriage from the start, the album captures Motörhead mainstays Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister and "Philthy Animal" Taylor struggling to adapt their raw power and unparalleled distortion to Robertson's more mainstream hard rock instincts and melodic tendencies. Thanks in part to Tony Platt's excellent production, Another Perfect Day ranks among the band's best-sounding records ever, but tinkering with a legendary formula is always fraught with danger (is that a boogie-woogie piano on "Rock It"?), and as one might expect, the results here are alternately exhilarating and sometimes frustrating. On the one hand, the glorious arpeggiated melodies that characterize singles "Dancing on Your Grave" and "Shine" (Robertson's most obvious contributions here) were a total shock to the system by classic Motörhead standards, but their popularity and ultimate longevity as band highlights is a testament to their excellence. Furthermore, other drawn-out blues exercises like "One Track Mind" (which wouldn't sound out of place on any number of early Ted Nugent albums) and "I Got Mine" simply took the intensity and power of previously delivered sub-three-minute blasts and diluted it into four to five minutes, which had some fans impatiently glancing at their clocks. The title track barely escapes this predicament, and tighter, punchier numbers like "Back at the Funny Farm" and "Die You Bastard" manage to revisit the classic bile and fury of years past, but Robertson's unwillingness to be a team player (refusing to play standards like "Bomber" live, never mind his ridiculous fashion sense) virtually guaranteed his eventual sacking. By extension, Another Perfect Day is doomed to be considered a curiosity to this very day. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia & John Franck
When it became known that "Fast" Eddie Clarke had split from Motorhead, heavy metal fans feared the end of this hard-living trio. But when it was announced that ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson was joining drummer Phil Taylor and bassist/lead growler Lemmy, another typically styled Motorhead release could have understandably been anticipated.
However, while 1983's ANOTHER PERFECT DAY was still unmistakably a Motorhead album, Robertson brought in with him some musical elements that caused quite a bit of controversy amongst longtime fans--most notably the subtle use of synthesizers. Still, such furious tracks as "Shine" and "Dancing on Your Grave" showed that this new line-up held promise. But ANOTHER PERFECT DAY would be the only Motorhead release to feature Robertson, as he exited after the subsequent tour (as did longtime drummer Taylor), leaving Lemmy the lone original member.

5 stars Robbo rocked!
Here is an odd duck for the Motorhead camp, Brian Robertson of Thin Lizzy fame came on board for the guitarist slot left vacant by Fast Eddie Clarke. This is one of the best Motorhead albums ever, I don't think it gets the attention it deserves. Lemmy's songs are great and the production produced a cleaner sounding Motorhead that still kicked some ass. Unfortunatley that old "creative differneces" excuse made this line up only record this one album. Even Lemmy still speaks highly of Robbo...get this album you'll find out why. The remastered version contains some cool extra songs as well that weren't on the original vinyl.

5 stars that is right!
As the previous reviewer tells, this Album is simply excellent like all that comes from such a band as motorhead! the music has a slightly more melodic & not so rough sound, but raw overall as it is in most motorhead records. no weak songs here...

5 stars This Is Classic Metal!!!
Some fans blasted this album, did they really give it a chance?? Brian Robertson is brilliant on what was sadly his only work with the band. Yes it's more polished than anything Motorhead had done prior but it's Classic Lemmy! Back At The Funny Farm and One Track Mind are some of Lemmy's finest lyrics ever (he is a modern day poet). Anyone that trashes this timeless metal classic needs "one of those jackets with the sleeves too long" that Lemmy sings of in Back At The Funny Farm!!

With the 1980 release of Ace of Spades, Motörhead had their anthem of anthems -- that is, the title track -- the one trademark song that would summarize everything that made this early incarnation of the band so legendary, a song that would be blasted by legions of metalheads for generations on end. It's a legendary song, for sure, all two minutes ...

Atheist turned the extreme metal world on its head with its 1989 debut release, PIECE OF TIME. Breaking many of the conventions of death metal at the time, Atheist was a band years ahead of its time, pioneering the sounds that would later be called technical or progressive death metal. Armed with musicians with a penchant for jazz, Atheist's debut was a complex riff-frenzy that is only today becoming appreciated. The remastered edition features nine bonus demo tracks from Atheist's early days and extensive biographical information.
Recorded in 1988, released in Europe in 1989, but only made available in the U.S. a year after that, Atheist's first album, Piece of Time, nevertheless had a huge impact on the death metal scene, which, at the time, could be said to be enjoying its peak years. A death album as conceived from a jazz-rock aesthetic, its unpredictably shifting tempos, non-linear riffing progressions, and sheer technicality did as much as any release of the era to push the genre's boundaries, breaking through preconceived limitations and preempting similarly adventurous contemporaries like Cynic, Pestilence, and Death (who had yet to become at all seriously progressive). One listen to brain-twisting creations like "Mother Man," "Room with a View," "On They Slay," and "I Deny" -- meshing frantic, severely discordant chords and sparse melodies with the agonized growls of frontman Kelly Shaefer -- and realizing they still stand up to scrutiny following the many repeat listens necessary to absorb them, is enough to prove this assertion. The title track is another fine example, as it threads a dizzying path through sudden stops, starts, and turnarounds before finally ...

Just when it seemed that System of a Down couldn't do anything to improve on their standing as the most unique and ambitious band in the alternative metal world, they decided to drop their sprawling, Rick Rubin-produced double album by releasing each disc separately. Early 2005 saw the arrival of MESMERIZE. After that album gained significant exposure via tours, radio, and videos, the album's counterpart, HYPNOTIZE, was released in late November. The albums were recorded in the same sessions--so there is a strong sense of musical cohesion, and even the CD packages themselves are designed to fit together to form one set.
"Attack" and "Dreaming" the first songs on HYPNOTIZE, are classic System of a Down with their furious riffage, schizophrenic song structures, and the slinky, nasal vocals of lead singer Serj Tankian. The band knows how to craft a hook ("Kill Rock 'N Roll," "She's Like Heroin"), raise political consciousness ("Stealing Society" is about the Armenian genocide), and rock with the ferocity of the heaviest speed and thrash metal bands. In short, System of a Down seems capable of doing anything, ...
