If Helloween's albums have been major disappointments since Keeper of the Seven Keys, then High Live is a positive surprise. Unlike other heavy metal groups, Helloween have collected great versions of their best songs on this live album, and therefore it is a must-buy for both old and new fans. It is great to see that this over-15-years-old band can still perform extremely energized gigs; this might be because of singer Andi Deris, who takes his audience with style. Also Helloween's retirement from heavy metal to hard rock gives a twist to their older songs. The complete sound of High Live is very powerful, and this confident, experienced band doesn't make a single mistake even on stage. High Live is a thoughtful and thick package of Helloween's music during their Deris-era. ~ Antti J. Ravelin

| | Manowar Kings Of Metal CD (1988)
High Live music CDs
$8.69 On their anthemic mission statement "Kings of Metal" Manowar once again proclaim their metal superiority thusly: "Other bands play, Manowar kills." The twin sentiments of the group's metal mastery and the majesty of medieval heroism in battle are repeated on their sixth full-length release, Kings of Metal. There aren't too many surprises on the disc, with the possible exception of bassist Joey DeMaio's blinding 64th-note bass playing on a reworking of Russian classicist Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" entitled "Sting of the Bumblebee." Considered by some fans to be a classic of its own, the 1988 release has quite a few ballads, though speedier tracks ...

High Live songs
$9.99 Seminal power metal gods Helloween appear to have gotten rather bored after their amazing last album, Better Than Raw, and hence laid down an album full of recordings by other musicians. They crank out Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Beatles, Faith No More, and Cream songs, among others. First the surprises and successes. ...
| | Procol Harum Salty Dog CD (1969)
High Live album
$16.29 A SALTY DOG...PLUS contains the complete 1969 original release plus 6 rare or previously unreleased bonus tracks.
This German import reissue is packaged in a digipak and contains the bonus track "Long Gone Geek."
Procol Harum, who reached an astounding peak with their 1967 debut, achieved further heights with each successive release up to A SALTY DOG, their third. This album mixes heartfelt singing with orchestral grandeur and an R&B-based rhythm section (B.J. Wilson is one of the great unsung drummers of the '60s and '70s). The band easily and honestly moves from the symphonic mini-epic of the title track to the bluesy "The Milk of Human Kindness." The dual keyboards offer a regal sheen that is nicely punctuated by Robin Trower's guitar. Throughout, Gary Brooker's vocals are richly barbed and the ...

| | Apartment Hunting CD (2002)
High Live music CDs
$20.95 APARTMENT HUNTING is a 17-track release featuring the soundtrack from the film "Apartment Hunting" that features Canadian singer Mary Margaret O'Hara and includes "Was You" and "Be A Man."
After releasing Miss America, an acclaimed debut album that still routinely tops critics' lists of all-time best albums, it's probably understandable that Mary Margaret O'Hara pulled a disappearing act: Apart from one EP and guest appearances on other artists' albums, there was nothing even remotely resembling a follow-up album for nearly a decade and a half. With the release of this album, she's managed to find a way to avoid any accusations of a sophomore jinx or even any serious comparisons to that stellar debut. After all, it's only a soundtrack, right? As you'd expect with a soundtrack release, the material is a bit uneven, designed more to fit the movie than any notions of a proper album -- the reason O'Hara was pulled from seclusion to record this soundtrack was because she played the main role in the film. Likewise, though the bulk of the material is indeed by O'Hara, ...

| | Jessica Weiser After Silence CD (2002)
High Live music CDs
$12.55 From the opening chords of "Falling Further In" to the epic track "After the Rain," Jessica Weiser's new album AFTER SILENCE is a journey that demands attention. The album is the third release for Weiser, who originally hails from a small town outside of Indianapolis, IN. In addition to AFTER SILENCE, Weiser has released 2 independent EPs and her career sales now total over 3,500 albums sold independently. AFTER SILENCE was recorded with producer Paul Smith (Badlees, Darcie Miner Band, Breaking Benjamin) at Saturation Acres Studio in Danville, PA. The album, which features members of Pennsylvania rock band The Badlees, contains 10 powerful and engaging tracks. The album's subject matter ranges from songs detailing pain and loneliness ("Loneliness," "Vine," "Indifference") to social and political apathy ("Shut Our Eyes"), and features a Neil Young cover ("Distant Camera"). Also included is the compelling track "After the Rain," which begins with a 15-second montage of NPR clips detailing the emotionally charged days after openly gay college student Matthew Shepard's murder in Laramie, WY. The epic song is both narrative and haunting, with a powerful statement about hate crimes. The backbone of AFTER SILENCE is Weiser's soaring, sweet soprano voice, throught-provoking ...

| | Swizzle Tree No Really, I'm Happy CD (2008)
High Live album
$6.69 Swizzle Tree definitely has a ring to its name which in a strange way defines the style of the band. Soaring melodies, crunchy guitars, magnetic harmonies, a solid rhythm section and strange personalities make up the unique sound of this infectious rock band. Born and bred in Chicago, Swizzle Trees members are no strangers to all music. With influences ranging from Bad Religion to Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots to Material Issue, the band shows no signs of weak spots in good songwriting. Steve, Saarang, Todish all went to high school together at Downers Grove South in Downers Grove, Illinois. Working together at a retirement home, they became quick friends - getting high and serving ‘old’ people food is a good form of bonding. Not too long after that, they realized they had the same likes in music. Steve and Todish both played guitar and, with an older brother in a successful local band, Saarang decided to follow in his footsteps and start singing. With a bass player and drummer, the band was born. After a falling-out and church robbery, the Tree needed a new rhythm section-no fucking around this time. The addition of Jiggles(2000) on bass was worthy, and 18 drummers later( okay, it was only 4), Nik took over the sticks in early 2008. Releasing their self-titled album, Swizzle Tree(2001), featuring the song Green Eyed Fool mixed by Johnny K (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Simple Plan), and selling a few thousand copies, the Tree started playing bigger and better shows in Chicago. Along with opening for such acts as Eve 6, Lit, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Sum 41, the Tree played Lollapalooza as well as clubs like House of Blues, Metro, and the Riviera. The release of Play On(2003), spawned a new-improved machine ...
