| | Escapade Citrus Cloud Cover CD Escapade Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Citrus Cloud Cover brought Escapade attention from outside of their local East Coast. This double album from 1998 got very positive reviews, usually for the right reasons. Recorded for the most part in the studio over the course of 14 months, it features a strong selection of space rock-based group improvisations. The music tends to be more jam-oriented, even ambient and slightly free-form, than what you'd expect from a space rock outfit. Insistent pulses and sweeping, flying-saucer-like synthesizers are rare and uncharacteristic. Instead, Escapade relies on strong listening skills and gradual transformations. On the other hand, it lacks some pathos and extremes -- not to say the music is cold or emotionless, but even in its harder-rocking passages it still feels self-aware and restrained. Disc two is far superior in quality, mostly thanks to two outstanding improvisations: "Turtle Chase" (17 minutes) and "The Sunlight. It Hurts My Eyes" (31 minutes). In the latter, Paul Hilzinger, John Ortega, Joey Murphy, Paul Casanova, and Hadley Kahn achieve the perfect blend of tortured sounds, driving basslines, and a sense of pace. Intelligent, creative space rock doesn't get much better than this. But one cannot help but wonder why this is a two-CD set -- a mouthful to swallow. The second disc would have made an excellent stand-alone album. ~ François Couture

$22.29 Providing the chance to compare Bruce Springsteen's debut and second albums with one recorded almost a decade later, this budget offering captures two sides of the New Jersey troubadour's musical persona. While GREETINGS is an explosion of pent-up imagery and forcefully delivered melodies, and WILD finds Springsteen exploring the possibilities of an expanded musical palette, the bleak, empty production of NEBRASKA proves that sometimes, a lone guitar and a high lonesome wail is all you need.
This trio of budget-priced reissues combines Bruce Springsteen's elemental NEBRASKA, his early-1990s curiosity LUCKY TOWN (originally released in tandem with HUMAN ...
| | Sky Blues Of Boston Live CD (2003)
Citrus Cloud Cover
$10.15 Most of The Sky Blues' career has been supported by rowdy bar crowds. After multitudinous requests for a recording of their classic cover renditions as well as originals, we finally have here a self recorded, direct-off-the-stage capture of a typical high energy, raw, intense, emotionally charged, get-yer-ya-yas-out, Sky Blues rock 'n' blues show. For old and new fans alike, enjoy it....while you can.THE SKY BLUES (Early BIRD MANCINI) have released to critical acclaim their second compact disc, "THE SKY BLUES of Boston LIVE" on Second Story Records. Their debut CD, "Pie in the Sky" helped bring them to the forefront of the regional blues scene, and also facilitated their invitation to perform at the 1997 North by Northeast Music Festival and Conference in Toronto. The Sky Blues have made numerous appearances on TV and radio, and have continuously performed live shows in Boston and throughout greater New England. Also, the band was chosen as a national semi-finalist in Musician Magazine's 1996 Best Unsigned Band Contest.THE SKY BLUES is the culmination of years of collaborative professional musicianship and songwriting by Ruby and Bill Mason (AKA Ruby Bird and Billy Carl Mancini). Their extensive touring career in the Northeast has included opening engagements for nationally acclaimed artists such as David Crosby of Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Gregg Allman Band, Beatlemania, The Pousette-Dart Band, Jonathan Edwards, James Montgomery, and The Mighty Sam McClain.THE SKY BLUES perform their own original blend of rhythm, blues, and rock, as well as plenty of classic and crowd pleasing blues and blues/rock covers. First rate vocals--often with three part harmonies--are featured with Bill on guitars and Ruby on harmonica and keyboards, with backup support from an excellent rhythm section, bassist John Bridge and drummer Philip Harris. They have been seen and heard in New England's best clubs including The Rynborn, ...

Citrus Cloud Cover
$11.59 Cynics who don't get smooth jazz -- and wonder why thousands of passionate genre fans spend their hard-earned money every year on the genre's many festivals and cruises -- just listen to the radio too much. No matter how catchy the songs are, the airwaves just don't capture the potential magic and fire of a live performance. That goes for most of the format's big artists, but few have been as compelling on-stage as the multi-talented Steve Oliver, whose soulful vocals and snappy guitar lines are just the beginning of what is essentially a one-man orchestra capable of numerous sonic delights; these include wild and crazy vocal percussion, breezy wordless vocal joys, and -- as evidenced by the "Guitar Demonstration" of this exciting live CD/DVD package -- a synth guitar that can simulate everything from a grand piano to bass, flute, and orchestrated strings. In the economic climate of the late 2000s, a dual package like this seemed like a calculated commercial risk. But as wildly compelling as Oliver's instantly infectious songs are on the ears, the visual entertainment he provides and the way his grateful audience responds (at any of his 200-plus performances annually) make a DVD of one of his classic performances (at the State Theatre in Modesto, CA) a must. Oliver doesn't go crazy finding new twists on instrumental hits like "Magic World" and "Chips and Salsa," but they are still some of smooth jazz's best songs and are always fun to hear. On classics like "I Know" and new tunes like "Fearless," he also shows his penchant for romantic lead vocals. The title of ...
