| | Red Planet Soundtrack CD
Original score composed by Graeme Revell. Audio Mixers: Mark Curry; Wolfgang Amadeus. Audio Remixer: Steve Osborne. Photographer: Jasin Boland. The original soundtrack to 2000's second Mars-mission movie Red Planet features music by Emma Shapplin, William Orbit, and Sting, as well as excerpts from Graeme Revell's original score. Peter Gabriel's "The Tower That Ate People," a remix of the Police's "When the World Is Running Down (You Can't Go Wrong)," and Orbit's "Mantok Point" are some of the highlights of the pop songs collected on the album. Revell's score mixes pop, symphonic, and electronic elements to create an epic -- and occasionally bombastic -- feel, but it matches the tone of Red Planet perfectly. ~ Heather Phares

| | Rick Group Reynolds Color Theory CD (2009)
Red Planet Soundtrack
$8.69 Color Theory, the debut album by the Rick Reynolds Group is a road trip of jazz, jazz/rock fusion and funk wrapped around Rick's unique approach to the guitar. The band consists of Rickās longtime musical partner and fellow Lucky Henry alum, Greg Roth on bass, Bomani on drums, Chris Gardner on piano and Jim Andrews on Sax. The first cut āBetter Than Everā is an upbeat tune reminiscent of Wes Montgomery and George Benson. B.T.E. is already receiving attention at smooth jazz stations internationally. Just when you think you are going to experience another mellow jazz album, āThe Commuteā comes in like a high-speed workday drive to Chicago on the Dan Ryan Expressway. It features Chris Gardner on piano as well as Rickās trumpet (guitar synth) throughout. Another radio ready tune is āFree Spaceā. This little funk piece starts with a drum computer before becoming a groove oriented and hook-laden feast (Larry Carlton lovers will hear the influence). Staying true to the roots of what Rick calls outside-guitar jazz, āControlled Burnā sounds like the burn is out of control and is spreading like wildfire! The release from the heat comes from interesting and original turnarounds with drum breaks. In a recent interview ...

| | Destroyer 666 Defiance CD (2009)
Red Planet Soundtrack
$13.19 Destroyer 666: K.K. (guitar). In a medium -- black metal -- where lyrical misanthropy and musical violence are basic career requirements rather than hard-won superlatives, a little thing called "attitude" often plays a bigger part in separating the men from the boys...the head-chomping balrogs from the butt-pinching imps, if you like. And attitude is something that the Australian-born, later Europe-based, Destroyer 666 have always delivered in spades ever since they originated as an inconspicuous, mid-'90s solo project of former Bestial Warlust guitarist K.K. Warslut. But with the release of their fourth full album, DEFIANCE, in 2009, the group was emerging from a six-year hiatus (quite possibly 6 years, 6 months and 6 days, in fact) that no doubt left their followers' confidence shaken. All for naught, as it were, since DEFIANCE revealed itself to be as potent as any previous Destroyer 666 effort, and one of their best recorded to boot, despite retaining a patented amount of dirt around the edges, in accordance with the band's passion for old-school black metal. Modern day fans accustomed to breakneck tempos still get their money's worth thanks to a fearsome set of blackened death/thrash onslaughts. All things considered, Destroyer 666's long anticipated comeback is a victory on virtually all fronts, a worthy addition to the group's consistent body of work, and certifiable evidence that the inexorable passage of time can always be overcome with serious attitude. In a medium -- black metal -- where lyrical misanthropy and musical violence are basic career ...
