(10 Customer Reviews)
Due to various legal troubles, Mac Dre didn't have the opportuntity to deliver a full-fledged follow-up to his second album, Young Black Brotha, until 1998 -- five years after YBB was released. The resulting record, Stupid Doo Doo Dumb, doesn't quite live up to its predecessor, mainly because it's missing the production of Khayree. His replacements, K Lou, Funk Daddy and Johnny Z, are all fine, but lack his distinctive spark. Nevertheless, they provide Mac Dre with a serviceable backdrop for his coolly funky West Coast hardcore hip-hop. Dre doesn't stray from the typical topics, but he has a good, stylish lyrical flow that makes Stupid Doo Doo Dumb relatively fresh in these gangsta-saturated, fin de siècle days. ~ Leo Stanley

| | Mac Dre Ronald Dregan: Dreganomics CD (2004)
Stupid Doo Doo Dumb album
$13.15 Mac Dre albums keep comin', faster than the quality would make you believe. Not that Ronald Dregan: Dreganomics is a masterpiece, but if you get a chuckle from the cover, you'll get a chuckle from the lighthearted album -- that being the hood version of "lighthearted." Mac Dre is a comedic, hedonistic personality/celebrity in the Bay Area, and knowing his story helps with the fun. "Thizzle" is a word that shows up in his work a lot, this time in the great party jam "Jump It," as in "Let me see if you can do the thizzle wiggle." The deepest comment he'll ever make on corrupt cops is that getting arrested by them makes you late for the party and they always seem to apprehend the best weed. Plenty of limited comedy rap acts with cults built around them have run out of steam long before they ran out of albums. Ronald Dregan is sleazy, unpretentious proof that Mac Dre isn't one of them. His albums all sound the same, ...

| | L L Cool J Mama Said Knock You Out CD (1990)
Stupid Doo Doo Dumb music CDs
$10.45 "Don't call it a comeback, I been here for years/Rockin' the mic, puttin' suckers in fear." Despite that disclaimer, MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT was indeed a resurgence--both commercial and personal--for LL, coming as it did after a long battle with substance abuse. Although the title track saw a return to the raw b-boy machismo of "Rock The Bells" after a few years of party jams and rap ballads, L was not about to abandon the tropes of sex symbol and party-emcee.
Accordingly, the testosterone level of "Boomin' System," and "Farmers Blvd." (a posse cut dedicated to the street-corner sessions which molded his style) is balanced with more seductive monologues ("Around The Way Girl," "6 Minutes Of Pleasure," "Mr. Goodbar") and straight comedy ("Cheesy Rat," "Milky Cereal"). More than adherence to any particular style, it's LL's original and articulate delivery that carries the album, which is also blessed with the production skills of Marley Marl. Marley definitely pulled out the stops for this one, dusting off a few classic beats to set next to those he'd obviously been saving specifically for a record of this ...

Stupid Doo Doo Dumb album
$8.55 All members, Kevin Prchal, Michael Lojkutz, Scott Turner, and Martin Fornelli at age 23, have spent enough time around music and so-called 'scenes' to know what their music is not; however defining what it is becomes a more complicated task. If one thread seems common among the six-track, self-titled EP, it is the courage for boldness. There is a mix between a slick rock sound that is nowhere near pop-punk, and intimate lyrics with detailed composition that is too focused for indie rock. No label seems rightfully fitting for the sound other than music with a purpose. 'The purpose behind this band is to write music that we've always wanted to hear. Music that might mean nothing to you, but still means the world to us. Music, that if anything, we can one day hold in our hands and tell our grandchildren, 'This was my band,' lead vocals and guitarist, Kevin Prchal explains, 'Being in a creative environment that allows me to sit here and say that, is one of the greatest feelings I could possibly imagine.'Making music is a form of expression, but also a medium of change for The Young Sea; it is their second time around as band mates. All four members made up the lineup of Triptii, who gained moderate success with their EP, The Lifecycle. The group decided the band was not delivering the message nor the sound they aspired for and called it quits in February of 2006. Throughout the next year, playing only sparsely together, the realization came they now had the freedom to start fresh; to be creative and boundless. Progress also led to the addition of Neil Hynneman (Captain Cinch, Owl, Bullet For Breathing) to the band's lineup as ...
