Savage Eye album for sale by Pretty Things was released May 30, 2000 on the Original Masters/Snapper Music label. The last album recorded by the Pretty Things before Phil May left; within months of this recording, the band split for a few years. Progressive Passion
Pretty Things' only real contribution to progressive rock lies with Savage Eye - but what a contribution! The album lifts off with Under the Volcano, truly a rock anthem. The other tracks border on experimental as the album softens to reveal an almost classical feel. As a result, Savage Eye becomes very listenable and unpretentious. This album was no doubt an attempt at a commercial breakthrough - Under the Volcano received some FM airplay (enough for me to by it in 1977) but not enough to launch them into Rockstardom. They remained on the fringe for years managing to stay afloat through personnel and label changes. None of their other material, previous or post has been able to capture the magic of Savage Eye.

solid "fantasy"rock
A Different poin tof view in playing mainstream rock in the second part of the seventies. Steady Riffs and fascinating melodies for one of the most underrated rock group of the epoque.

good stuff
Savage Eye it s quite a respectable end for their 70s crazy run... some songs are too commercial FM oriented... But "Sad Eye" is the typical Tolson personnal track (look at "Peter" in 72 "Freeway Madness" LP) But i can t listen too much to "Sad Eye" it s those kind of track who put you really in a sad mood (as for ex. "Tears" from the 76 classic & best "2112" LP of Rush)... "Im Keepin" offer excellent performance by Phil May and it rocks ...(it s not always like that in this record...so it s even more precious) "Under the Volcano" is a furious intro for an LP ...the end of the track is really good ... the final of the track is even more reachin summits in "Remember that boy"... The majority of the non-rock track are not at the same level...too Arena Plastic Pop oriented...xpt "sad song" who is far too be commercial with those lyrics... and the surprise come from "My Song" ...maybe my best track of the LP...the words are quite simple...but it give the impression that the band is in full union and in a battle at the same time... A battle because "my song" gives me the impression that each member of the band is tryin to take the possesion of the track... yes it s mine... it s a real mix of union and a challenge...like in the Olympic game ... My Song is a bit a sort of mid 70s Elton John style pop...but with a superbe difference... The final of the track is fantastic...man... the drums and the rest are tremendous... Hats down to the Pretties!
