Scottish folk music icons the Tannahill Weavers begin their first anthology -- like one of their legendary live shows -- with the rousing "Geese in the Bog/The Jig of Slurs," and what follows are some of the most electrifying recordings of traditional music ever put to tape. Best of 1979-1989 compiles 12 stellar tracks culled from the group's first seven records and showcase its muscular piping and gorgeous balladry. Audience favorites, such as "Johnnie Cope/Atholl Highlanders," "The Gypsy Laddie," and their peerless version of Robert Burns' "Auld Lang Syne", reside among the lesser known -- but equally impressive -- "Tranent Muir" and "Farewell to Flunary/Heather Island." This is a great place to start for the novice, as some of these records are either out of print or require a great deal of hunting. Singer/guitarist Roy Gullane's clever liner notes and the addition of a "Scots-glossary" help make this already essential compilation even more valuable. ~ James Christopher Monger Best Of 1979-1989 Music | List Price | $16.98 (You save $3.53) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, International CDs, Country, Celtic, Irish, Folk, Scottish, World, Greatest Hits Collections, Enhanced CD | | Label | Green Linnet | | Orig Year | 1989 | | All Time Sales Rank | 54512 | | CD Universe Part number | 1209255 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jul 03, 1990 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo |

| | Furay Hillman Souther Trouble In Paradise CD (1975) Souther Hillman Furay Band
Best Of 1979-1989
$9.69 The Souther, Hillman, Furay Band was one of those supergroup creations of the 70's. Chris Hillman was an original member of The Byrds, Richie Furay was one of the founders of Poco and J.D. Souther worked with Glen Frey of the Eagles. In 1974 they formed this unique group and recorded two albums. Trouble In Paradise rose to # 39 and is making its worldwide CD debut. Wounded Bird Records. 2002.
Souther, Hillman, Furay Band: J.D. Souther (vocals, guitar, bass, drums); Chris Hillman (guitar, mandolin, bass, background vocals); Richie Furay (guitar, background vocals); Al Perkins (guitar, pedal steel guitar, dobro); Paul Harris (flute, keyboards); Ron "Crunchy" Grinel (drums); Joe Lala (percussion). With producer Tom Dowd, known for his work at Atlantic Records, at the helm, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band seemed to be distancing itself a bit from its country-rock roots with its second release, the appropriately titled Trouble in Paradise. Here the band expands on the funkier aspects of its debut album, ...
