One And All: The Best Of Cherish The Ladies CD music
$10.15 I was so young when I first began singing, my mother had to help me on to the piano bench as she would play “Look at that Doggy in the Window”. I would joyously sing along. On the farm, I would actually spend several hours sitting at the bottom of an empty grain silo and sing. The acoustics in there were fantastic! My seven siblings and parents were my audience for many years, until I grew up and started singing in music class. At the age of six I was told by my music teacher, I had natural vibrato. By the age of ten I could sing all three octaves in full voice without any voice training. (My parents didn’t have money for that kind of thing.) When I became a teenager, I started writing poems and actually turning some of them into lyrics. For seven years I sang in a very successful rock band and when I could, sang in church on Sunday. After I quit the band, I finally made a commitment to sing on the worship team at my church…and that’s when my dream started to come true. After I stopped giving my precious time to all the bad things in my life, I found I had a lot of extra time on my hands. With the urge forever present in my soul to use my singing gift the Lord had given, one night, I retrieved the box of yellowed-paper poems out my basement closet. Over many Chinese food Friday nights, I began composing my old poems and lyrics into songs. This just came naturally for me. Before I knew it, I had five original songs. I started looking for a pianist to add the melodies…I found one. A friend told me, he was asked to fill in at a Christian church and on that Sunday he had met an amazing pianist. My friend said this was meant to be because the pianist had a great Christian name - Luke Hendrickson. Laughingly he also said, “and this has to be meant to be. Karla, don’t you know? - I’m Jewish. I was just filling in at that Christian church the one morning for a friend.”I called the pianist, Mr. Luke Hendrickson, and asked him if he could spend some time with me to create music to my lyrics. He told me he had just finished releasing his CD (which is incredible by the way) and probably wouldn’t have the time, but a project had just been postponed. When we completed about the fourth song, Luke turned to me and said, “you need to get a producer.”“Producer?” I said, “Will you be my producer.” Promptly he said, “I don’t have the time but I can help find you one.” I started contacting all of my great musician friends putting the word out I needed a producer for my music. I also called Airborne Studios after seeing an ad, but hadn’t received any contacts. So I just kept writing and composing. More Chinese food Friday nights!Labor Day weekend, I took a break and ended up at the Lake of the Ozarks. I was standing outside of a local restaurant when a young man named Jeremy came over and said he liked my cool Beatles t-shirt. As we continued our conversation, I learned Jeremy had just interviewed with a producer at a Kansas City recording studio. I told him I had never heard of the studio so Jeremy offered to write down his name and number for me.Many weeks passed. One evening I received a call from Airborne Studios. As Don introduced himself and I began explaining what I was looking for, he stated, “I have just the right person for you. Can I transfer you to him?” I was transferred to a very soft-spoken man introducing himself as Joe. I explained to him my ambitions and asked him if he was a Christian. (Little-did-I-know, he had a top 10 Christian hit CD in the early 90’s.) He stated we should meet and I agreed. I asked him if I could get his phone number. He began telling me his phone number. 785…as I wrote down 785, I thought to myself, ...
