(9 Customer Reviews)
By far one of the most alternately stark, gripping, and emotional offerings ever produced by the heavy music genre, this album is considered by most fans to be the definitive Zao work. After the dissolution of the band's prior incarnation, original member, drummer, and songwriter Jesse Smith assembled a new lineup that included guitarists Russ Cogdell and Brett Detar (who would later play for the Juliana Theory) and poetically inclined, screechingly devastating vocalist Daniel Weyandt. Lyrically, this album addresses the death of loved ones, religious issues, and in-depth personal examination with forthright honesty and daring emotional bravery, all backed by walloping walls of heavy metallic sounds and mournful guitar lines. Smith's drumming is impeccable and the songs are all driving, heart-tugging anthems that sound pained and devastatingly cathartic all at once. It features sharp, hissed, Carcass-like vocals that have been imitated by countless bands in the wake of this album's release. A definitive album from what has proven to be one of the most important bands in the metalcore genre. ~ Ryan J. Downey

...and Angels fold their Wings This is Zao's second major release. It certainly doesn't fall short! I wouldn't say it as good as "Liberate te ex Inferis", but that's also a lot to compare it too. This CD is awesome as well. The first 2 tracks are some of Zao's best...ever. The guitars on this album, I would say, are the best in any of their albums. Very good CD...will not dissapoint. This Will Kill You I've been into the the death /hardcore/grindcore for 15+ yrs and I cannot think of a heavier record. This is the real stuff boys, the Zenith of Zao. This record boasts Carcass inspired vox and riffs that would make Rob Barrett cry home to his mommy. Fans of Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Meshuggah, etc. this is for you. But trust me, you are not ready. things are no longer the same so here's what happened: this CD came out and it raised the bar for hardcore/metal bands. you may have noticed that many recycled sounds circulate throughout the hardcore "scene" today, and one of those is undoubtedly the Zao sound. great songwriting, horrifying vocals, slayer harmonics and broken-fax machine-breakdowns run amuck in this epic masterpiece on album. hands off to the immitators, this is the real deal, Holyfield. Where Blood And Fire Bring Rest music CDs
$13.05 2004's We Live witnessed the birth of Electric Wizard Mark II, as lone remaining founding member Jus Osborn -- tired of years of internal strife -- decided to "upgrade" the doom metal stalwarts from a power trio to a twin-guitar quartet. However, with or without the cosmetic improvement brought on by the addition of second guitarist Liz Buckingham, it's important to point out that this incarnation of Electric Wizard has little in common with the original article of ten years prior. Rather, as previewed by 2002's slightly more subdued Let Us Prey opus, this, the Wizard's fifth album finds the Dorset doom masters' original, overwhelming force largely replaced by a deep-seated sense of dread. Here, said vibe is established by the sphinx-like, ten-minute, ...
