On Free Your Soul and Save My Mind, Suicidal Tendencies' umpteenth studio release, the band revitalizes their moribund skater punk sound. After a series of disappointing full- and partial-length albums, this effort hits the mark in most respects. Once again, they sound like accomplished musicians, rattling off funky riffs and spirited three- to four-minute bursts of punk. "No More, No Less" sparkles with the bifurcated bass and guitar lines of Robert Trujillo and Mike Clark. "Children of the Bored" features some of the heaviest sections Suicidal Tendencies have ever recorded. The album's zenith is "Start Your Brain," a powerful old-timer punk tune with seriously wigged-out distortion techniques. The end result is refreshing and hard-driven, albeit mildly anachronistic. The only drawback of this release is frontman Mike Muir's continued writer's block. His lyrics remain repetitious and uninventive: a shadow of his former self. However, in most instances, the quality of the music makes up for it. ~ Kieran McCarthy On Free your Soul and Save my Mind, Suicidal Tendencies mixes all the STyles together and still finds time to switch off to a few others. From the Punk of Start Your Brain, to the sarcasm of Pop Songs (which the band also did a video for), the band attacks various STyles from Skate punk to Thrash to Metal to Funk to the smooth, mellow yet trippy sounds of Home. Cyco Speak is just that, a spoken word narrative by Mike Muir. Self destruct kicks off the cd in high gear and continues on from there. Musical, yet aggressive and powerful, FYSSM has something for all the Cycos.

| | Colleen Coadic Scream Of Conciousness CD (1998)
Free Your Soul And Save My Mind album
$18.99 Nova Scotian singer/songwriter Colleen Coadic focuses on simplicity on this 12-song disc. The album begins with "Wonder Years," an upbeat and partially acoustic track, with Coadic's feisty vocals dancing over simple and direct instrumentation. The music is often hypnotic and somber in the album's first half, especially on the third track, "Hypnotic." The fact that the album is possibly overly produced might hide the richness of some of the songs. Her versatility as a vocalist is impressive, but the best songs showcase ...

REVIEWSReview of the LOVE AND ROCKETS and lisa dewey show-Lisa Dewey's opulent tapestries were prime music to take a bubble bath and write introspective haikos to. The brisk tempo of "I'm Not Your Lover" had my Pacemaker shredding through my rib cage. Plus, the last song, in which she laments something about "soup and salad", had all the makings of a Fresh Choice dance sensation. -Matt Koumaras, Metro Santa Cruz, May 12, 1999. Lisa Dewey - It takes 12 strings to get Dewey's point across, proving she's capable of going the extra distance. The punk-folkie can control the weather with the ethereal nature of her songs. -(TSI) Metro Newspaper. April 07, 1998.... also on the Girl Fest menu are the rootsy blues rock offerings of see jane run and the mystical pop stylings of Lisa Dewey. Dewey creates dreamy, ethereal soundscapes in the Cocteau Twins/Dead Can Dance realm. - Matt Koumaras, Metro Santa Cruz, March 17, 1999. Lola CUKIDewey dishes up lush 12-string guitar work and ethereal vocals that work like a dream machine operated ...

$7.85 (MP3 Available for Download) In the dense annual blizzard of holiday albums, A VERY SPECIAL ACOUSTIC CHRISTMAS shines like a gleaming treetop star from a warm, inviting living room, thanks to its organic, no-frills approach and its remarkable lineup of performers. Dan Tyminski (of O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? fame) offers up a charming version of "Frosty the Snowman," while Willie Nelson lends his legendary voice and guitar playing to a fine take on "Please Come Home for Christmas."
Alison Krauss contributes her surprisingly poppy "Only You Can Bring Me Cheer (Gentleman's Lady)," Marty Stuart confides that "Even Santa Claus Gets the Blues," and Pat Green saunters through a relaxed "Winter Wonderland." Bringing the Yuletide album to an appropriate close is Norah Jones, in a beautiful solo rendition of ...
