| | Death Cab For Cutie We Have The Facts & We're Voting Yes CD Death Cab For Cutie Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
DC4C's second full length is everything you want from indie-rock: great songs, great lyrics, and ragged-but-right performances. Texturally there's nothing here you've not heard before: various combinations of guitar, drums, and bass.
Cabmaster Ben Gibbard's early cassette releases reveal a slightly smug wiseass who thinks he's just okay. But for the recording of this disc, Gibbard's voice is full of confidence. His songwriting/lyrics show a new depth and grow more infectious with repeated listenings. "Company Calls Epilogue," in particular, cuts right to the heart with its winding melodic line and lyrics that are full of regret.
A delicious and head-sticking mix of drummer Ben Gibbard's heartbreaking vocal melodies and reflective lyrics of transition and loss, punctuated by energized and beautiful playing from Chris Walla and Nick Harmer. Barsuk Records.
Audio Mixer: Christopher Walla.

Magnet (6-7/00, p.74) - "...Warm, pensive numbers that take their time going nowhere....Death Cab should rock out like this more often." CMJ (4/3/00, p.3) - "...Its shifting layers of guitar and keyboards and its economical use of dreamy, depth-enhancing production effects are amazingly effective..." Mojo (Publisher) (p.133) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[A] distillation of gently turned melody..." NME (Magazine) (8/22/02, p.43) - 7 out of 10 - "...A charming slice of indie rock that reeks of universal appeal..." Death Cab For Cutie We Have The Facts & We're Voting Yes Songs We Have The Facts & We're Voting Yes Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Still the Best Death Cab Album This is, in my opinion, the best album I've heard by the band (and I've heard most of them). Albums like Transatlanticism and Plans are good, but this one seemed to hit an alchemical sweet spot where everything just happens right. If you've never heard music like this before, give it a couple of listens before you toss it out the window. It's not cheap, quick-fix music---it's made to last, so be patient and let it sink in. This sounds literate Tell-tale side of emo. After Weezer? You have to own this. I can see why there is a spark of interest going on before joining the big time after transatlanticism was released. This IS like plans but shortened in lengthbit. Submitted by orangegreendesolate (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
i know what genre it is! i believe this fits into the genre of "extremely boring and completely uninteresting music." this album would be ten times more exciting if it was simply poetry in a book somewhere, instead of sung to music on a cd. ben gibbard can write pretty tales of love, but on this album there isnt much else besides that. if you want a terrific death dab album, get transatlanticism. DEATH CAB: DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE NAME Brilliant. It doesn't exactly fit into any genre I know of but its the classic American guitar, bass and drums set up. The difference is that it has a more sophisticated edge which cuts it above the rest of the millions of similar bands - forget money for food and other unimportant things just buy this. $10.99 This release compiles the band's early cassette-only release YOU CAN PLAY THESE SONGS WITH CHORDS, 7" tracks, plus previously unreleased covers and outtakes.
This is a pretty good 18-track collection of rarities and unreleased material. It's not recommended to newcomers who want an introduction to the band or casual listeners who want only one or two of their CDs, but Death Cab for Cutie fans should be pleased with the selection. The earliest ...

We Have The Facts & We're Voting Yes CD music
$17.39 Although never a first- or even second-string punk band, London's Chelsea lasted through a variety of lineups over a number of years, with growling vocalist Gene October the only constant. 1979's CHELSEA is their first and possibly their best album. Here Chelsea favor a slower, more metal-influenced sound than many of their hyper punk contemporaries, with riff-rockers like "I'm on Fire" and "Fools and Soldiers" sounding more like Mott The Hoople or Slade than the Clash.
Guitarist Tony James, later co-leader of the controversial Sigue Sigue Sputnik, plays in a slashing, riff-oriented style that shows Chelsea's stomping hard rock roots, while the cover of Jimmy Cliff's "Many Rivers to Cross" shows a wider range of influences. This reissue includes four demos of early Chelsea singles, including an excellent version of the anthemic ...
